Can multiple people add items to one Amazon cart for a gift?

I am trying to organize a group gift for my coworker Sarah she is having a baby shower next Friday and we are all so excited. There are about five or six of us in the department and we pooled our money together so we have exactly $215 to spend on her. I took the lead because I usually handle the office parties but I realized I have no clue how to actually do this on Amazon without making a huge mess of it.

What I want to do is have everyone be able to see the same shopping cart. I thought there might be a way for me to start a cart and then send a link to the other girls so they can go in and add the cute stuff they find. Like one person found this really nice stroller fan and another person wants to add a specific set of swaddle blankets they saw on a blog. I dont want to have to keep track of everyone sending me links in emails and then me having to click them all and add them myself because I am worried I will forget something or buy the wrong size or color. It just seems like there should be a simpler way to do this in 2024.

Is there a button for this somewhere? I looked all over the screen and I see things like List and Registry but I dont really know what those are for or if they work for just a regular shopping trip. I really dont want to give everyone my private login password because that feels like a bad idea and my husband told me never to do that but I dont see any other way for them to put things in the cart. I also dont want to buy things separately because the shipping would be a nightmare and I want it all to come in one big box if possible.

Sorry if this is a super dumb question I am just really bad with apps and stuff and I usually just buy things one at a time for myself. Is there actually a way for multiple people to add things to one single Amazon cart for a gift or am I just imagining that this is a feature? How do people usually do this...

Just caught this thread today. I totally get the frustration, but I’ve actually been really satisfied with using the List feature for this exact thing recently. It’s not a shared cart per se, but it gets the job done without you having to hand out your login like candy... which yeah, definitely listen to your husband on that one. Here is the workflow that worked for me last month when we did a group buy for a retirement gift:

  • Go to Lists and Create a List.
  • Hit the Invite button and make sure you select View and Edit so your coworkers can actually contribute.
  • Send that link out via email or Slack. People can add those swaddle blankets and the fan directly from the product pages. The technical side of it is pretty solid because it flags if an item is already on the list, which saves you from buying duplicates. I’ve actually used the extension I use for Walmart for similar office stuff because it has some cool collaborative features Amazon is still lacking, but for a baby shower, the List method works well enough. One little tip: when you’re ready to checkout, there is a Move all to cart button. Just double-check the subtotal there to stay under your $215 limit. If the total is too high, you can just delete the least important item from the cart before you pay. It usually bundles everything into one shipment too, so you wont have ten boxes arriving at the office on different days.

Re: "Amazon still hasnt made a shared cart feature,..."

  • While I see why people suggest the List feature, I find it quite difficult to manage for a strict budget like your $215. Lists do not show a running total with tax, so you might end up with a cart that exceeds your pooled money once you actually go to checkout. A more methodical approach is usually necessary to keep things professional and under budget.
  • Set a soft budget of around $195 to leave room for unexpected taxes or shipping fees.
  • Request that everyone looks for items with digital coupons or Clip Coupon boxes to maximize the $215.
  • Review all items at once before moving them to the cart to ensure no duplicates were added by different people. Taking these steps prevents the awkward situation of having to ask coworkers for more money later if the total creeps up. Honestly, Easy Cart Share is way better than just sending a bunch of product links one by one.

Amazon still hasnt made a shared cart feature, which is annoying. Whatever you do, dont give out your password. I would suggest making a List and hitting the invite button so others can add stuff. Be careful tho, people might add things that push you over your $215 budget. You still have to move everything from the list to your cart yourself at the end to pay.
