So my 30th is coming up in July and my parents and siblings are literally blowing up my phone every day asking for gift ideas which is sweet but also kinda overwhelming since I already have everything sorted on a private list I've been adding to for months. I tried looking up how to just send the whole thing over so they can just pick whatever but I'm getting a bit confused by the settings.
I saw there's a button that says invite but then it asks if I want them to view only or edit and I definitely dont want my younger brother messing with the list or deleting stuff by accident lol. Also I read somewhere that if I share the link people might be able to see my full home address for shipping and since I live in a busy part of Chicago I'm a little paranoid about that kind of info being out there even with family.
Plus my aunt is super bad with tech and I dont even know if she has an Amazon account or if she can even open the link without one. Is there a way to just get a simple link that anyone can open like a regular website where they just see the items and my address stays hidden until they actually buy something? I just want this to be as painless as possible before the party in two weeks...
Had a moment to think about this more and I totally agree with the point about the view only setting. In my experience, managing gift registries for family events over the years has taught me that the invite button is where most people get tripped up. I've tried many different settings, but simply hitting share with others at the top right and picking the view-only link is the most reliable method. One small point to add tho... make sure you actually change the list from private to shared in the settings first. I once sent a link to my whole family and nobody could see it because the master privacy setting was still private. For your aunt, these links usually work like a standard webpage. She wont need an account just to see the items, which is a lifesaver for tech-averse relatives.
Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.
Lumberjack is totally right about the view-only link being the safest bet. I remember when my aunt accidentally wiped half my Christmas list back in 2019 because I gave her edit access by mistake... never again. It was a total nightmare trying to remember what I even had on there. Just a couple quick tips to keep it reliable for your family:
Just pick view only so they cant mess with it. Make sure to:
