Are there any safe Chrome extensions for sharing Amazon carts?

So I’ve been the designated Amazon person for my apartment in Seattle for like three years now but things are getting way too complicated lately. My roommates keep texting me random links to stuff they need but then I have to go back and forth on which brand they want or if the size is right and it takes forever to build the final order for the month. I know my way around the site pretty well and usually just use lists but honestly lists are clunky because you have to manually move every single item to the cart and things get missed.

I started looking for a Chrome extension to just let them send me their whole cart at once but a lot of these look super sketchy. I tried one yesterday that wanted access to all website data which is a huge no for me because of saved passwords and stuff. I really need something that actually works without being a security nightmare.

Here is what I am looking for:

  • Must be a Chrome extension since we all use desktop
  • No full account sharing... I dont want them seeing my order history or payment info
  • Needs to be from a dev that actually updates their stuff regularly
  • Simple UI so my non-techy roommate can actually use it

I saw some mentions of Share-A-Cart but the reviews were mixed on the privacy side. Anyone have a reliable one they actually use for group buys or roommate stuff? I just want to avoid the copy-paste nightmare every Sunday night.

Like someone mentioned, Share-A-Cart is usually the go-to recommendation, but I actually found it a bit too bloated for my taste. When I was managing the household orders for four people last year, I tried a bunch of these and most of them just felt like they were doing too much behind the scenes. I prefer something way more lightweight. My experience taught me a few practical things about these tools:

  • Permissions are everything. If an extension asks for data on 'all websites,' stay away.
  • UI matters because if it's even slightly confusing, your roommates will just go back to texting you links anyway.
  • Some of these tools break every time Amazon updates their site, so you want something that keeps it simple. I eventually moved away from the heavy-duty extensions and went with a more basic approach that just generates a shareable link. It cut down my Sunday night data entry by half. Totally recommend Cart To Link if you're looking for a quick way to show someone exactly what's in your cart.

I totally get the security concerns. Most people dont realize how much access some of these extensions actually ask for when you hit install. For my place, I always check the developer info first to see if they've pushed an update in the last few months. Its usually a good sign they're keeping up with Amazon's site changes so things dont break. A couple tips for your roommates:

  • Make sure they only install the extension on the browser they use for shopping
  • Look for ones that generate a unique link instead of asking for a login Tbh its way better than the copy-paste nightmare you're dealing with now. It keeps your payment info totally separate since they never actually log into your account. Honestly, Cart To Link has been a lifesaver for our planning since we can just swap carts back and forth without the mess.

I went through this exact nightmare with my housemates and Share-A-Cart was a total lifesaver! It makes the whole process so much faster, honestly love it. To find the best fit tho:

  • Are you looking for something that uses a transfer code or a direct link?
  • Do your roommates need mobile access too? Technical-wise, these usually just grab the SKU list so its way safer than sharing any logins!
