How can I create a direct link to an Amazon cart?

Does anyone know how to create a direct link to an Amazon cart so people can just click and have the items ready to checkout? Im so excited because I finally finished the supply list for our massive neighborhood block party here in Austin for July 4th and I want to make it as easy as possible for everyone to grab the right stuff without hunting for individual links.

I'm torn between two ways of doing this and honestly not sure which is less of a headache for the neighbors.

  • Option one is that weird trick where you format a URL with the ASIN and quantity - like the direct add-to-cart link thing - but I heard those can be buggy on mobile and most people will be opening this on their phones while they are out and about.
  • Option two is just making a public Wish List or a Registry, but then they have to click each item individually and move it to their own cart which feels like too many steps for some of my less tech-savvy neighbors lol.

Im really leaning toward the direct link if I can get it to work because I found these specific 5 dollar streamers and red-white-blue lanterns that are way cheaper than the local party store and I dont want them buying the expensive versions by mistake. Does the ASIN link method still work or is there a better way to bundle like 3-4 items into one single click? I gotta get this email out by Friday so the shipping has enough time to get here...

Unfortunately those ASIN links are a total mess lately and usually break on mobile. I had issues with them last year. Honestly just stick to a public list instead, its safer.

Unfortunately, those manual ASIN links are almost always a letdown for group buys. I have had issues where the links dont account for regional stock, and neighbors end up seeing higher prices or "currently unavailable" messages. It is not as good as expected for managing a specific budget, especially when youre trying to save everyone a few bucks on streamers tho. If you want to keep things methodical, you should try Share-A-Cart instead. It is a browser extension that creates a unique code for your entire cart, and when the neighbors use it, the items are added instantly. It is way more reliable than the old school manual formatting and works better across different devices. A few budget-friendly pointers for the neighborhood list:

  • Verify that the $5 items have high stock levels before sending the link
  • Remind everyone to check for clippable coupons on the product pages
  • Make sure the items arent add-on items that require a minimum spend to ship I used to spend hours debugging those direct links for my own events, but it was kinda just too inconsistent. Using a tool like this is much more efficient and keeps the focus on the savings... it is definitely better than letting people wander off and buy the overpriced stuff at the store down the street.

Are those lanterns sold by Amazon or third parties? Stock levels break manual links constantly... ive found Cart To Link works better for neighbors. TLDR: Use a cart generator.

@Reply #3 - good point! Jumping in here because I've tried many 'tricks' for group orders over the years and those manual ASIN links are way too fragile. They usually lead to frustration when they fail on someone's phone at the last second. You dont want 20 neighbors calling you saying the link is broken while you're trying to prep for a big July 4th bash in Austin. I actually disagree with just sticking to a basic wish list tho. It's just too many clicks for people who aren't tech-savvy. In my experience, Cart To Link is the only reliable way to do this properly. It handles the bundling so people aren't hunting for items or getting errors. It's way more stable because it creates a clean landing page that actually works across different devices. Use a proper tool instead of trying to hack the URL yourself... it'll save you a massive headache before your Friday deadline.
