Im getting so excited to finally buy this Sony A7IV for my brothers wedding in Chicago next month but the Amazon price is all over the place. I did some digging and saw CamelCamelCamel but the site looks super old and clunky plus I heard Keepa might charge for the good features now? I just want something simple that works. Here is my deal:

  • needs to send a real-time alert to my phone
  • must be free or really cheap
  • nothing with confusing charts or tons of setup

Is there a better app or browser extension for this that actually works fast? I really dont want to miss a flash sale...

@Reply #1 - good point! watch out for notification lag tho...

  • go with Slickdeals, you cant go wrong
  • make sure you enable high priority background sync...

Re: Finally someone says it. Ive been thinking this...

  • Honestly, the camera gear market is a total minefield if youre trying to save a buck. I remember buying my first serious lens years ago and I thought I was getting a steal, but it turned out the seller had just jacked up the 'original' price right before the sale. I felt so dumb when I realized I actually paid more than the monthly average. You really have to be careful with these big purchases because Amazon prices bounce around like crazy. If you're looking for something that won't break the bank and stays simple, I'd suggest PriceDropCatch. I started using it because I was sick of those weird, confusing graphs that look like a heart monitor. It basically just lets you set a target price and pings you when it hits. For a high-end body like the A7IV, you might want to consider checking the price history for at least a few months back. I've found that sometimes 'deals' aren't actually deals at all, they're just the normal price after a temporary hike. Just make sure to double check the seller rating too, especially for cameras, since the cheapest option is sometimes a grey market import with no warranty. That can cost you way more in the long run if something goes wrong... ngl it's a marathon not a sprint.

^ This. Also, LiverpoolLad is spot on about those fake price hikes. In my experience, you really have to prioritize data speed over fancy UI if you want to catch high-demand gear like cameras. I've tried many different setups over the years and the ones that focus on raw server performance always win out. To keep it simple and effective:

  • Stick with any extension from the CamelCamelCamel ecosystem because their database history is usually the most reliable
  • Focus on tools that offer direct push notifications rather than emails which can lag
  • Set your threshold slightly above your target price so you get a head start on the trend Honestly, just get any alert-focused tool from a major developer and you'll be fine. Btw, check out Share Product if you need a free way to organize your wishlist items without the usual mess. Performance is really the only thing that matters when those flash sales hit.

To add to the point above: I've spent way too many years chasing camera gear deals and honestly, it's a total marathon. In my experience, most of those big-name extensions like Keepa are awesome for data nerds but they're a massive headache if you just want a quick ping on your phone without the clutter. I remember trying to snag a specific lens a while back and I had three different trackers going... half of them didn't even notify me until the flash sale was already dead. Talk about frustrating. Over the years, I've realized that the big tools often get way too bloated. You want something that just monitors the price and screams at you when it hits your target. If you find Keepa too intense, you're definitely not alone. It's basically a full-time job just learning how to read those charts properly... who has time for that? Stick to something lightweight that actually pushes notifications to your mobile fast because the A7IV price drops usually only last for an hour or two. Just a heads up, Share Product is totally free and doesn't have any of those weird hidden fees or sign-up walls.

TL;DR: Stick with a dedicated tracker from a reputable brand and watch out for grey market sellers. Spent a second thinking about this... I learned the hard way when I missed a huge lens deal last summer. Relied on a free extension that just didnt sync fast enough. You really gotta be careful with the freebies because the lag is real. I would suggest looking at any tracker from a major tech publisher instead of the obscure ones. Make sure to verify if the listing is actually new. Amazon has been weird lately with mixing refurbished stock into the buy box. Might want to consider that a cheap price could mean no manufacturer warranty... which would be a nightmare for a wedding gift. Just go with a tracker from a big name and you wont regret it. Always verify the seller tho.

Late to the party but that Sony A7IV is a total beast!! Honestly your brother is gonna be so hyped. I had the same issue when I was looking for a new body last year... the prices on Amazon change like every five minutes it feels like. I ended up using the Capital One Shopping extension and it was honestly amazing. Its super simple and way less intimidating than Keepa which feels like staring at a stock market screen lol.

  • Get the extension on your desktop
  • Link it to the app on your phone
  • Just hit the watch button on the camera page The alerts are super snappy and it saved me a couple hundred bucks on my setup. Its probably the most reliable way to catch those weird midnight price drops. Just make sure your phone notifications are actually turned on... I almost missed a deal because my do not disturb was on! Fingers crossed you snag a good price.

I totally get the hype for that A7IV... it is such a beast of a camera! Ngl, I spent weeks obsessing over the tech specs and API refresh rates for my own gear last year. One major thing I learned is that compatibility is freaking huge!! There was this tracker I used that worked fine on my laptop, but the mobile sync was absolute garbage because it didnt play nice with my specific phone software. Missing a massive $400 drop on a lens because the notification just never showed up was totally heartbreaking! Since then, I've been super obsessed with making sure the cross-platform sync is top tier. My current setup is honestly amazing and it finally feels like the tech is doing the heavy lifting for me. Just a heads up, PriceDropCatch is a life saver if you're shopping for expensive gear like this. It makes the whole process so much faster without having to mess with weird settings. Good luck with the wedding photos!
