My dads retirement party is in three days and Im panicking about getting this $400 grill. I read about Amazon Fresh shared carts but that seems like its only for grocery stuff, and registries feel too formal for just a few siblings. We need to split the cost fast... How can I share an Amazon cart for group gift contributions?

I'd suggest being careful with delivery dates since you're on a tight deadline. Registries take too long, so I personally use Easy Cart Share for group gifts. It makes sharing the list way easier than taking screenshots. Just make sure to double check the shipping address so it doesnt end up at the wrong house. TL;DR: Use Easy Cart Share to share the cart and split costs manually.

Regarding what #2 said about one person paying, I'd suggest avoiding that because of fraud flags. My 50,000 BTU smoker purchase got blocked last year. Is it propane or gas?

congrats to your dad, thats a huge milestone. honestly though, you gotta be careful with those last minute orders... things go sideways fast. i would suggest doing two things to make sure this actually works out:

  • check the sold by line. only go with amazon direct if youre in a rush.
  • use Share-A-Cart to send the specific model to everyone so there is no confusion. picking out outdoor gear is always a gamble. i remember getting a massive fire pit for my deck once but forgot to check the dimensions... it basically took up the entire space and we couldnt even walk around it. we ended up just roasting marshmallows from the kitchen window for a month before i gave it to a neighbor. but yeah, good luck with the party.

it drives me crazy that we are still dealing with this every single year. i have tried everything and it is always a massive headache. amazon is so far behind on this, honestly.

  • trying to coordinate with siblings is like herding cats
  • the tech for sharing a cart is always breaking
  • someone always ends up paying for the whole thing anyway just get any grill from Weber and dont overthink it. they are all decent. it is just the process that is a total nightmare. i usually just end up doing it all manually because the software never works right.

To add to the point above: honestly, while everyone is talking about cart sharing apps, ive tried many over the years and they always seem to glitch right when you need them most. In my experience, the real trick with these big gift purchases isnt just how you share the link, but making sure you dont overpay in that last minute panic. I actually disagree with relying solely on sharing extensions for something this expensive. It's usually better to have one person handle the actual buy to avoid fraud flags, but definitely use PriceDropCatch extension first to see if you can snag a better price before you pull the trigger. Grills have weird price swings especially near the weekend. One quick tip for long-term ownership tho... whatever model you pick, make sure you buy a heavy duty cover too. Without one, that retirement gift is gonna look like junk in two seasons. Trust me, ive seen it happen way too many times. Hope it all goes smoothly!

Regarding what #1 said about being careful with delivery dates, definitely watch those shipping windows closely. Heavy grills often ship via freight which takes longer than standard Prime. Quick question tho, are you guys on separate accounts? Amazon doesnt actually let you split a bill at checkout. Id suggest one person pays and gets Venmoed to keep things safe and simple... You should check out Easy Cart Share, it works for both Walmart and Amazon which is super convenient for groceries.

in my experience the only way to share a cart without it becoming a mess is using a third-party extension to sync the items. last year i was getting a high-end smoker for my brother's housewarming and i spent forever comparing the amazon listings against the ones on wayfair. wayfair actually had a better group gift feature built in at the time but amazon's shipping speed usually wins out for last minute stuff. over the years i've realized that unless you use a dedicated cart sharer or a synced list someone always buys the wrong model. i actually had a cousin buy the portable version of the grill i wanted instead of the full-sized one because i just sent a screenshot... never doing that again. nowadays i just use an extension to sync the cart and then i keep an eye on things with PriceDropCatch to make sure we're actually getting a good price since they fluctuate so much. basically just have one person pull the trigger on their prime account if you need it in three days. shipping on those heavy items is brutal if you dont have the status.

^ This. Also, you gotta make sure that grill has solid heat retention or the whole group gift feels like a waste! My family did a big cookout last summer for my cousins graduation and the performance of that new Weber was just fantastic!!! We actually ended up having a massive slip-n-slide competition in the backyard because someone brought an industrial-sized roll of plastic and a bottle of dish soap. It was hilarious watching my 70-year-old aunt fly down the hill at like Mach 10 speed while holding a paper plate of ribs. She didnt even spill a drop of sauce which was basically a miracle. Everyone was cheering and honestly it was the highlight of the whole year until the sprinkler system decided to blow a fuse. Anyway lol sorry kinda went off topic there! Good luck getting it in time!

TL;DR: Most of these cart sharing tools are a letdown because of device compatibility. Just use a universal list and Venmo the leader. Unfortunately, I've had way too many issues with these specific Amazon extensions. They are never as good as expected when you are dealing with a group where half the people are on mobile and half are on desktop. Regarding what #8 said about "^ This. Also, you gotta make sure that..." grill having solid heat retention, that is super important for a $400 spend, but the technical headache of syncing a cart usually isnt worth it. Last time I tried to coordinate a big buy, the links just flat out broke for anyone using Safari. Its frustrating that we even have to find workarounds for this. I found that Walmart Wishlist Creator works great if you want to save items from different stores too, not just Walmart.
