Is there any way to share my Amazon cart contents without giving my password out? I'm trying to prep for a camping trip in the Cascades next weekend and I need my friends to approve the gear list before I buy. I'm torn between using the Share-A-Cart extension or just sloggin through and making a public wish list but moving like 20 items is a total pain. The extension seems faster but I'm worried about security, while the wish list feels like itll take all night. Or should I just screenshot everything? Problem is they need to see the prices cause we're on a strict $250 budget. What’s the easiest way to do this fast...
Be careful with random plugins, but I would suggest this tool for sharing carts. It’s way safer than sharing logins and keeps that $250 budget totally transparent.
@Reply #1 - good point! honestly i spent hours trying to coordinate a gear list for a hiking trip once and it was a total nightmare. moving items to a wish list is basically a data entry slog and it doesnt always show the total with taxes correctly. i usually weigh these based on security vs convenience:
> What’s the easiest way to do this fast... Honestly, i have had some issues with those cart extensions lately. I tried one for a group trip to the Olympics last year and it was super disappointing... half the items didnt even import correctly and the prices were way off because of some regional shipping stuff. It ended up being more work than it was worth, ngl. If you really want to avoid the wishlist slog, Share-A-Cart is probably your best bet even though it can be a bit finicky with coupons. But honestly? If youre on a strict $250 budget, the DIY way is just better. I usually just fire up a shared spreadsheet, copy the item names and prices, and let everyone comment there. It sounds slow but it only takes like 10 mins and you dont have to worry about some random extension breaking or seeing your private info. Plus you can actually track the total budget in real time which is a lifesaver when people start adding extra gear at the last minute...
Any updates on this?
Re: "Ok adding this to my list of things..." - honestly it is so frustrating that we even have to deal with this in the first place.
Building on the earlier suggestion, I totally feel your pain on this one. Every single time I try to coordinate a group buy for my climbing gear, I end up hitting the same wall. It is like Amazon wants us to just buy everything twice instead of collaborating. I have spent years digging through the tech side of these extensions and honestly, most of them are just scraping ASIN data which is pretty harmless if handled right. If you are worried about that $250 budget, Share-A-Cart is probably your best bet because it handles the real-time price updates way better than a static list. From a technical perspective, the risk is minimal if you just use it as a one-off tool. My move is usually to load the cart, use the extension to generate the share code, and then immediately bin the extension from my browser. It keeps the session data clean and you dont have to worry about any background processes later. Just watch out for those other sellers on the platform... their prices can jump $20 in five minutes and wreck your whole budget plan before your friends even click the link.
@Reply #2 - good point! honestly tho, ive spent years testing these kinds of tools and i'm still a bit hesitant about anything that hooks into my active session like that. if you're really worried about security and staying under that $250 limit, the 'fast' way usually has trade-offs you might regret later. in my experience, its better to just stay manual:

Ok adding this to my list of things to try. Thanks for the tip!
Gonna try this over the weekend. Will report back if it works!
Seconded!
I have been organizing gear lists for my group trips to the Cascades for years now and honestly, the biggest trap you can fall into is relying on something that doesnt refresh live. In my experience, I have tried many of these cart sharing tools and the most frustrating thing is when the prices or stock levels are outdated by the time your friends actually look at it. One time we thought we were well under our budget for a backpacking loop, but because the tool i used cached an old price, we got hit with a huge surprise at checkout. I would definitely warn you to double check that any extension you pick is actually pulling the current data and not just a static snapshot. Ngl, it is also super easy to accidentally share more than you intended if you arent careful with your session settings. Just keep an eye on those permissions and maybe do a test run with one item first. You really dont want to be fighting with a broken cart while you are trying to pack your bag and get out the door... but you're gonna have a blast out there. The Cascades are beautiful this time of year!
Can confirm
I just saw this and it reminds me of my first big trip to Zion last year. We were trying to split costs for a huge cookset and some tents, and honestly, i was so happy with how we handled it. I ended up trying Share-A-Cart because i think a friend told me it was the best way to avoid the whole wishlist headache. I've heard people mention other tools like Shopping Cart Share too, but I've never tried those myself so im not sure how they stack up.
