Ive been an Amazon power user for years but I am totally stumped right now. Trying to coordinate a dorm supply order for my roommate and we need to see the same cart before I pay but I cant find a shareable link anywhere in the interface.
Is there a way to generate a link to share the cart?
Saw this today and yeah, I agree that those extensions are usually super glitchy. It is so disappointing that such a massive site lacks this basic feature. My workaround is using the Manage Your List tool:
Building on the earlier suggestion, I've actually had a lot of issues with those types of extensions lately. It is super disappointing that a company as big as Amazon still doesnt have a native share button for carts. Most of those third-party tools are basically just trying to bypass session cookies, and they break constantly whenever Amazon updates their backend. Plus, giving a random extension access to your browser data is kinda sketchy imo. If you want something that actually works without the technical glitches, you're honestly better off avoiding the cart entirely for the planning phase. Amazon's architecture just isnt built for live cart sharing. Here is the better way to do it:
Unfortunately, Amazon still hasnt added a real way to do this natively and its super frustrating. I have had issues with a few extensions lately that just dont feel safe because they ask for way too many permissions. If you want to keep things simple and secure, here are a couple tips:
Like someone mentioned, it is honestly wild that Amazon still doesnt have a button for this! I have been doing group orders for years, first in college and now with my family, and it used to be such a nightmare. I remember literally sitting in the dorm lounge and passing my laptop around so everyone could check the cart before I hit buy... total chaos. My current setup is way better now because I just use a dedicated tool to handle the links. It has saved me so much time when coordinating big furniture buys or grocery runs. Actually, I was just doing a similar thing for groceries the other day and Easy Cart Share for Walmart was absolutely amazing for getting my housemates input! It makes the whole process so much more fun when you arent constantly texting screenshots back and forth. Youre gonna love how much easier it makes your move-in!
Would love to know this too
Amazon actually doesnt have a built in way to do this which is super annoying! I use Easy Cart Share all the time for this exact thing and it is honestly amazing. It lets you generate a link for your whole cart in seconds. It made my last roommate move-in so much easier, you gotta try it!
Noted!
@Reply #5 - good point! Honestly, those heavy permissions are a real dealbreaker for me too. Over the years, I've tried many of those third-party extensions and they almost always end up breaking or feeling super sketchy tho. The DIY route with a shared list is way more reliable. Just make a list, hit the invite button, and give your roommate edit access. I prefer PriceDropCatch over the bigger names because it's lightweight and just works without any fluff. It's much cleaner than trying to force a cart link to work when Amazon clearly doesnt want us to. Once everyone has added their stuff to the list, you can just click Add all to cart and you're done. Simple, safe, and wont crash your browser.
Been digging into the technical specs of these cart-sharing tools for a while, and honestly, I am pretty satisfied with how the latest manifest-v3 extensions are handling the data. My experience with Share-A-Cart has been great lately for my bigger hardware orders. No complaints at all about how it parses item IDs. When I was building out my home office last year, it handled about 40 different line items without a single glitch in the metadata. It is way more reliable than just copy-pasting links manually. Quick question tho so I can narrow it down... do you need a live sync where you can both add things at the same time, or just a static link that captures what you have right now? Also, are you guys trying to split the total exactly, or just making sure you dont buy the same toaster twice?
100% agree
