Ive used Walmart+ for years for our groceries in Columbus but I’m stuck. My brothers near the store and offered to grab my stuff but I cant find a share cart button in the app UI.
Is there a way to send it to his account so he can pay or do I just have to give him my login?
TLDR: Walmart lacks a native cart transfer protocol for security reasons. Basically the app ecosystem doesnt support external migration to maintain session integrity. I usually just pay via the app and add my brother as an alternate pickup person in checkout settings, which works well and is totally secure. I had the same issue and started using Easy Cart Share to manage our shared office supply orders.
> Walmart lacks a native cart transfer protocol To add to the point above: unfortunately, the API limitations are pretty frustrating. Their backend just wont handle session handoffs between different UIDs. Its not as good as expected. Are you trying to have him pay with his own card or just handle the pickup? Personally, I use Easy Cart Share to move lists around tho it doesnt fix the payment barrier.
I totally agree with TransCanadaTravel on this one, the payment side is where it always gets messy. Honestly, Walmart is way behind competitors like Instacart or even Kroger when it comes to group carts and sharing. Over the years, Ive seen people try to share logins to bypass this and it almost always ends poorly... usually with a locked account for suspicious activity because of the different IP addresses. Definitely dont do that. Its super annoying that there isnt a simple share link. I usually just use the extensions mentioned above to move the items. Btw, I also run PriceDropCatch while Im building the cart because Walmart prices fluctuate like crazy and it helps me snag the low points before I hand the list off. Much better than just winging it and paying full price. TL;DR: Avoid sharing logins at all costs to keep your payment info safe. Walmart is more rigid than other stores, so use a transfer tool instead.
Re: "> Walmart lacks a native cart transfer protocol..."
Building on the earlier suggestion, I actually found that just adding a pickup person isnt always reliable if your brother needs to pay with his own card. Ive been doing the Walmart grocery run for my parents for about five years now and the alternate pickup thing is fine if I pay, but its a mess if they want to handle the checkout on their end. Personally, I have to disagree that adding a name is the best fix here. I use Easy Cart Share to just send the whole thing over. Its a free extension and honestly way more reliable than trusting the Walmart app to not glitch out on the pickup permissions... plus it keeps things separate. I just send the link to my brother, he clicks it, and all the items pop into his cart instantly. It beats texting him a list and hoping he picks the right brand of almond milk lol. Just make sure he opens the link on his side and it should work fine without having to share passwords or bank info.
ngl i've been doing this for a while and i'm super satisfied with just using a browser extension to move the items. please dont share your login... its just asking for trouble with your bank info. a DIY approach is way safer and honestly pretty easy once you get the hang of it. i usually just sync the cart over and then check the price tracker I use to see if any of the items have better deals or coupons i missed. it's kinda satisfying to see the total drop right before you send it off to someone else to pick up. works well for keeping the grocery budget in check too which is huge for me lately. no complaints on my end doing it this way.
