Is there a way to sync my Amazon cart with someone else in real time? Im finally moving into this awesome loft in Chicago with my best friend next month and we are seriously so hyped to start decorating but we keep adding the same exact things to our separate carts and its getting super confusing. Like we both had the same toaster and shower curtain ready to go lol.

Im looking at a few ways to handle this because our budget is pretty strict since the move-in fees were killer. I was thinking maybe we should just do the Amazon Household thing where we share the Prime benefits but I heard that merges payment methods and I dont know if I want her seeing every single thing I buy or vice-versa?

Then theres the option of just making a shared Idea List or a wedding-style registry for the house but it feels like an extra step if we just want to hit checkout on a bunch of cleaning supplies and snacks. I also saw some random Chrome extensions that claim to merge carts but Im kinda nervous about security and stuff. Which one of these is actually the smoothest for two people who just want one shared basket? We really need to get this sorted by next week so we can order the big stuff before move-in day...

I've been using Amazon since back when they mostly just sold books, and honestly, they still haven't made a perfect real-time cart sync for two separate accounts. Household is usually the go-to for saving money because you split the Prime membership fee, which is a huge budget win when you're dealing with Chicago rent prices. But yeah, the payment sharing is a dealbreaker for a lot of roommates. You basically have to trust each other with the default card, and it gets messy fast. Over the years, I've found that the smoothest way to stay under budget and avoid duplicates is actually using the Amazon Registry feature, specifically a Housewarming one. It sounds like an extra step, but it's way better than a standard Idea List because it actually tracks what has been bought. If your roommate buys the toaster, it disappears or shows as purchased immediately. That saves you from wasting money on returns or double orders. Plus, registries often give you a 10 percent or 15 percent completion discount after a certain date, which is perfect for those expensive cleaning supplies and furniture pieces. Skip the random Chrome extensions. Most of those are buggy or just scrape your data. Just stick to a shared registry or one of you can just log into a house account on a separate browser session. It keeps the finances clean and ensures you aren't paying for two Prime subs. Tbh, just keep an eye on the warehouse deals for the bigger stuff like coffee makers to save even more.

@Reply #1 - good point! But honestly, I think Household is kinda messy for friends because of the payment sharing stuff. I love using this Amazon cart sharer instead! It is totally free and makes the process so much faster and way more fun tbh.

  • keeps accounts separate
  • syncs items instantly
  • super easy browser setup It is seriously a lifesaver when you just want to grab snacks and decor together!

To add to the point above: you might want to consider the security risks. Household is fine for families but for roommates it is basically a privacy nightmare since you have to share payment methods.

  • Idea Lists: Safe but super tedious for small stuff.
  • Household: Cheap, but be careful because they see everything you buy. I just use Easy Cart Share whenever I need to show someone what is in my cart without giving out my login info.
