so i am totally lost with this whole online gift list thing and i need to figure it out like right now because my sister in law is already texting me for the kids lists. i have been looking at the walmart app because i do all my grocery shopping there anyway but then someone told me about elfster and i have no idea what the difference is or if one is easier for a total beginner. im really not tech savvy at all so sorry if this is a dumb question but do i have to pay for these? my budget is zero dollars for apps lol i just need something where my grandma can see what we want without getting confused by a million buttons and ads.

here is what i need:

  • has to be totally free
  • simple enough for older people who hate phones
  • can handle about 15 people in a group
  • needs to be ready by this friday for our planning dinner

i mostly shop at the walmart near me in ohio so staying in that app seems easy but i dont know if elfster lets you add stuff from other stores too? im just really stressed about everyone buying the same toys for the toddlers and having to deal with returns because i dont have the time for that. is the walmart one better if most of our stuff is from there or is elfster just the standard way people do this now? i really have no idea where to start...

In my experience, sticking to just the Walmart app is risky if items sell out. I've tried many over the years and this wishlist tool is a safer bet for beginners because it's simple and totally free. It works for any store too... prevents those annoying double purchases which saves so much time on returns. Dont worry, it's very easy to set up before Friday.

tbh i am struggling with this exact same thing right now and it is driving me crazy. i have been trying to set something up for my family for like three weeks and every app i try just feels clunky or not as good as expected... it is so disappointing that there isnt a simple standard for this yet.

  • i have been looking at this wishlist creator too but honestly i still havent decided if it is the right move because i am so worried about the tech side for my parents.
  • the walmart app has been a letdown for me before because stuff goes out of stock and then the link just breaks.
  • elfster feels way too crowded with ads for what i actually need. honestly i am just as lost as you are and the pressure is real with the holidays coming up. quick question tho... is your grandma mostly on an older tablet or a phone? i am trying to figure out if screen size is gonna be the dealbreaker for these types of lists since i have the same worry about my own folks getting confused.

Saw this earlier but just getting back to you. You might want to be careful with the Walmart app because it relies on internal SKUs which locks you into one store. For 15 people, the technical load on Elfster might lag older phones. I would suggest this wishlist tool instead.

  • Its completely free with zero ads.
  • Syncs in real-time to stop double buying.
  • Very low memory usage for grandmas phone.
