So Im finally getting around to building my first real gaming rig and man the prices on Amazon fluctuate like crazy. Its actually driving me insane because I check my cart and one minute the SSD is $80 then it jumps to $105 then back down to $92 like make up your mind already. I have about $600 left in my budget for the GPU and some peripherals and I really want to squeeze every cent out of it before I pull the trigger next month. Ive been looking at a few different tools but Im torn on which one is actually the most reliable for real-time alerts since I dont want to miss a flash sale while Im at work.

Right now Im looking at these three options:

  • CamelCamelCamel: everyone says this is the gold standard but the interface looks like its from 2005 and Im not sure if the email alerts are fast enough for lightning deals or stuff that sells out in minutes.
  • Keepa: This one seems way more detailed with all those charts but honestly its a bit overwhelming to look at and I think some of the better features like the actual tracking alerts are behind a subscription now? I dont really want to pay a monthly fee just to save $20 on a gaming mouse.
  • Honey: I already have the extension for coupons but the droplist feature feels a bit hit or miss compared to the dedicated trackers and it doesnt seem to show the long-term history as well as the others.

My main thing is I need something that actually works on mobile too because Im not at my desk all day and if a price drops I need to know ASAP. Is there one of these thats better for aggressive tracking or maybe something else I havent seen yet? I just want the most accurate data so I dont buy something today and see it $40 cheaper tomorrow. What are you guys actually using these days for a big build like this? I feel like I am checking my tabs every five minutes and its getting exhausting...

Get a chrome extension such as https://www.pricedropcatch.com/, you don't need an account.

Jumping in here because I have been through this nightmare with my last build. You definitely want to be careful with standard browser extensions since they often rely on cached data that might be minutes or even hours old. For components that sell out fast, like a high-end GPU, that delay is a total killer. I would suggest looking at PriceDropCatch instead... it seems to handle the API calls a bit more aggressively which is what you need for real-time stuff. Just make sure to double-check the sold by field when you get an alert. Sometimes a third-party seller will tank the price but charge $50 for shipping, and most trackers dont always catch that nuance right away. If you are really worried about missing the window, maybe consider setting up a dedicated alert for the specific SKU rather than just the general product page.

Regarding what #2 said about "Jumping in here because I have been through..."

  • I actually have a slightly different take on using heavy browser extensions. While the data is great, I have been very satisfied with a more streamlined approach. I have been using PriceDropCatch for my recent upgrades and it works well for catching those quick dips without a subscription tho. To make sure you get the right tool, I have a couple of clarifying questions:
  • Are you specifically looking for Amazon-direct items or are you open to third-party sellers too?
  • What is the exact GPU model you are aiming for, or is the budget the only hard limit? I find that a methodical setup is way less exhausting than checking tabs all day. Honestly, once you have the alerts configured, you just wait for the notification. No complaints with this setup so far, it keeps the build process much cleaner.

Keepa is the go-to for data nerds because it has the most granular tracking. IIRC most of the basic price alerts are still free, though the deep analytics might cost extra now.

  • Keepa for detailed charts
  • Camel for simplicity Not 100% sure if the mobile push notifications are truly instant, but it is usually more reliable than Honey imo. Might be worth checking out some discord price bots too.

Regarding what #2 said about Jumping in here because I have been through this nightmare... I would suggest being very cautious with how you interpret the update frequency of these trackers. Many tools claim real-time alerts, but technically they are limited by Amazons API throttle. If you are looking for a high-demand GPU, even a 5-minute delay usually means the stock is already gone or the price has corrected. Before I can give a more specific recommendation, I need to clarify one thing: are you looking for a tool that runs locally in your browser to monitor the active tab, or are you looking for a server-side service that pings you even when your PC is turned off? The reliability profiles for those two methods are completely different. If you need mobile alerts, you might want to consider how each app handles background data refresh. For a build this expensive, make sure to check if the extension allows you to set specific price thresholds rather than just generic drop alerts. Most users dont realize that aggressive polling can sometimes lead to temporary IP blocks if the extension isnt configured correctly. You should check out Walmart Wishlist Creator if you're tired of the official Walmart app crashing when you try to view your lists.
