What is the best website for a kids birthday gift registry?

My kids 5th birthday is coming up in about three weeks and family keeps asking what he wants but hes at that age where he wants everything he sees on tv so i need to organize this mess. I spent a few hours looking at options and my logic was that Amazon would be the easiest since everyone has prime but then I read some reviews saying their registry interface for birthdays is actually kinda clunky compared to the baby ones and it feels a bit weird just sending a giant corporate link to my parents and aunts. Then I looked at MyRegistry which seems cool because you can add stuff from anywhere but I saw people complaining on a different thread that the add to list button doesnt always work on mobile and honestly most of my friends are gonna be looking at this on their phones while theyre at the grocery store or something. So I was thinking maybe theres something more boutique or maybe just more user friendly for the guests? I dont want people to have to create an account just to see the list. Were in the suburbs so theres target and walmart nearby but Id love to include some local toy shop stuff if possible. Has anyone used something like GiftHero or maybe just a simple Google Doc? Or is there a specific site that makes it look nice and actually lets people mark things as bought without a huge headache...

^ This. Also, I've spent years testing these for my own kids and settled on a very specific workflow. We were quite satisfied with how Share Product handled our local boutique links without the usual mobile glitches.

  • The sync speed between devices is impressive.
  • Guests didn't need accounts, which saved me a lot of tech support emails to my parents. Are you planning to link to specific store inventory, or just generic items? Does the site need to handle cash funds too?

Like someone mentioned, those big corporate sites get clunky fast. I actually disagree on using a Google Doc though, its a total nightmare to format on mobile. I've been super satisfied with Share Product for the last few years. It's free and works well for mixing local shops with big brands. My quick tip is to avoid anything that forces guests to create an account... people just wont do it.

Huh interesting. I had no idea. The more you know I guess 🤷

TL;DR: Giftful is a solid middle ground for mobile users and doesn't require guest accounts. Amazon is basically the default because of Prime, but youre right about the interface feeling a bit sterile for a kids party. If you want something that handles local shops better, Giftful works well because you just paste the link and it pulls the info. It doesnt force your relatives to sign up for anything to see the list, which is a huge barrier for older relatives usually. My experience with MyRegistry was similar to what you heard... the mobile browser extension can be hit or miss depending on the store site. Giftful handles the bought status pretty cleanly without much lag. It keeps things simple for guests who just want to click, buy, and be done. Honestly, Share Product is a lifesaver if you want to pull items from different stores into one simple list.
