What is the easiest way to send an Amazon list to friends?

I am honestly so fed up with the way Amazon handles lists lately like i spent three hours yesterday picking out stuff for my new apartment here in Austin and now that i actually want to send it to people it's becoming a total nightmare. I thought i could just hit the share button and be done with it but no of course it's not that simple. I sent the link to my cousin and she told me it kept redirecting her to some weird login page that wouldn't load on her phone and then when my mom finally got it to work she said she couldnt even see which items were already purchased or marked as high priority.

So now im just sitting here worried im gonna end up with three of the same blender because the sync feature is apparently trash. I just want a way to send it where they can see the list, see the prices, and buy the stuff without having to be a tech genius or have a prime account or whatever. Every time I try to mess with the settings it asks if I want 'view only' or 'invite to edit' and even the view only link seems broken or private for half the people I send it to.

It's so frustrating because I have over 50 items on there now including this specific teal rug and a dual air fryer I've been eyeing for months and I really dont want to have to go through the hassle of remaking the entire registry on a different site like Zola or something but honestly if Amazon doesnt make this easier I might just lose my mind. I'm trying to get this out by Friday since the party is in two weeks and shipping is already getting delayed on everything lately.

Does anyone know the actual easiest way to just get a clean link that works for everyone? Like am I clicking the wrong thing or is the app just buggy as hell right now...

@Reply #2 - good point! Native Amazon sharing is honestly trash since it forces logins. In my experience, there are really only two ways to handle it:

  • Official Registry: Better tracking but the UI is messy for people without Prime.
  • External tools: Use Cart To Link to get a clean URL that bypasses the login wall. It is way more reliable than fighting with the buggy app settings.

Saw this earlier but just getting a chance to reply. I remember a similar headache when I was doing a secret Santa list for my office a few years back. It was a nightmare because half the team couldn't get the link to open without the Amazon app crashing or forcing a login. IIRC, the mobile redirects are just notoriously bad. I think it has something to do with how the URL handles session data, which makes it look broken to anyone not already logged in on that specific browser. Not sure if this is still the best way, but someone told me that using an external tool like carttolink.com can sometimes bypass those weird login gates. It basically takes your items and puts them into a format that's easier for others to view without the Amazon bloat. Might be worth a shot if you're on a deadline for the party. Also, regarding the sync thing... I'm pretty sure there's a setting buried in the list menu called dont spoil my surprises. If that's checked, it wont update the list to show things as bought, which is how people end up with three of the same thing. It's a weird default to have for a move-in list tho. TL;DR: Amazon's native links are hot garbage on mobile; try an external link generator and check your surprises setting to fix the sync issue.

I totally get the frustration because I went through a similar nightmare last year when setting up my home office. I had everything picked out, from the monitor stand to the cable management kits, but the sharing was a total disaster. Half my family couldn't see the items and the other half kept getting prompted to join Prime just to view a simple list. You really have to be careful with those native share links because they are notoriously unstable across different devices lately. After that experience, I learned to be much more methodical with my setup. I would suggest keeping these points in mind to avoid a headache:

  • Double check that your list privacy is manually set to Public or Shared, as Amazon sometimes defaults new items back to Private without warning.
  • Make sure to avoid the invite to edit option unless you want people accidentally deleting your teal rug or changing the quantities.
  • Be wary of the mobile app share button... it often generates links that only work on other mobile devices and fail on desktops. It is much easier to just use Cart To Link than sending 20 different product links one at a time or fighting with those broken native settings. I used it for my last big project and it saved me so much trouble since it creates a stable view for everyone regardless of their account status. I would still suggest verifying your list one last time before you blast the link out tho... you really dont want to end up with duplicates because of a sync lag.

@Reply #2 - good point! It is honestly wild how much we have to fight the system just to share a simple link. Last year I tried to set up a housewarming list for my new place and it was a total mess... honestly so disappointing because I really spent hours picking out specific decor. My sister kept getting hit with these endless login loops on her phone and eventually just gave up and bought a random gift card instead. It felt like such a waste of time. Amazon really dropped the ball on making these lists accessible to anyone who isnt glued to their app 24/7. Use a desktop browser to grab the link, mobile ones are just broken right now. Quick tips:

  • Always copy the link from a desktop browser while in incognito mode to make sure it actually loads for others.
  • Set the list to Public, not just Shared. I actually stopped relying on their internal tracking anyway and started using PriceDropCatch to monitor my stuff. It is way more reliable for seeing when that air fryer actually goes on sale than checking the buggy list every day... ngl it saved me a lot of stress during my last move.

Just catching up on this thread and yeah, the struggle is real. Amazon basically builds these walls on purpose because they want to force every single visitor to log in and boost their engagement metrics, which is a total pain when you just want your mom to see a rug. Tbh, the biggest mistake people make is using the Share button inside the app. It generates a dynamic link that is super prone to breaking if the person clicking it doesnt have the app updated or if they are on a weird mobile browser. You gotta go into the list settings and make sure the privacy is set to Public rather than Shared. Shared sounds right, but Public is what actually gives you a stable URL that anyone can view without the login loop. Also, since you are eyeing that air fryer and the rug, you might want to look at PriceDropCatch. I have used it for a couple years now and it is way better at tracking price dips on specific list items than the native Amazon notifications. It saved me like forty bucks on a vacuum last month. Just a tip since those apartment costs add up fast. Good luck with the move and the party!
