Are there any tools to monitor Etsy price changes over time?

I am so incredibly hyped because I just signed a lease for my first ever solo apartment in Brooklyn and I finally get to decorate from scratch!! I've been spending like five hours a day on Etsy looking at these gorgeous hand-knotted wool rugs and I found this one shop that has exactly the vibe I'm going for. The problem is my budget is really tight since I'm moving in just two months and I can really only spend about $250 or maybe $300 max if I'm lucky.

I've noticed that the prices of the rugs in my favorites list keep changing all the time? Like one day it's $350 and then the next it's $310 and I have no idea why that happens or if it's just a random glitch. I'm totally new to shopping on here and I'm super worried I'm gonna buy something right before it goes on a huge sale and basically throw my money away.

Is there like some kind of tool or website that can watch the price for me and send me a message when it goes down? Or maybe a way to see a chart of what it used to cost? I don't know if that's even a thing that exists for Etsy but I'm really hoping someone knows a trick because I'm just refreshing the page constantly like a crazy person...

Regarding what #2 said about "Regarding what #1 said about "Karma is a..."

  • I agree it's just a starting point. You might want to consider that those small daily price shifts are often just currency fluctuations if the shop is based overseas. Be careful to:
  • Factor in shipping before getting excited about a lower price
  • Watch for "abandoned cart" coupons if you leave the item favorited I've been using PriceDropCatch for a while now and it's honestly saved me a lot on vintage jewelry.

Regarding what #1 said about "Karma is a fantastic and reliable way to monitor these price fluctuations safely," it's definitely a solid starter choice!! But if you really want to get into the nitty gritty of how these shops operate, you need something with more granular control. The price changes you're seeing aren't glitches at all. Usually it's because of currency conversion rates if the seller is overseas, or they might be running A/B tests on their pricing to see what converts best. I'm obsessed with using an Etsy price monitor that functions as a browser extension. Tools like Distill Web Monitor are amazing because you can literally select the exact price tag element on the screen and have it ping your phone the second a single digit changes!! It's such a rush to see the data update in real time. Since you're on a $300 limit, you should also look for abandoned cart discounts. Sometimes if you leave the rug in your cart for 48 hours, the seller's automated system sends you a 10% or 15% off code. Combining that with a price tracking tool is basically the ultimate budget hack!! It's honestly fantastic how much you can save when you treat the shopping process like a data project. Definitely dont just refresh manually... let the scripts do the heavy lifting for you so you can focus on your Brooklyn move!

Regarding what #5 said about "Been thinking about your rug hunt and it..." honestly it all sounds a bit too optimistic for me. I have tried several trackers and they were just not as good as expected because Etsy changes their site code so often. I had issues with notifications being delayed by hours, which is basically useless when you are looking at one-of-a-kind vintage items that sell in minutes. My DIY process usually turns into a total mess:

  • keeping 40 tabs open until my laptop fans sound like a jet engine
  • writing prices on the back of old receipts I then immediately lose
  • forgetting which shop had the better shipping rates This whole situation reminds me of when my roommate tried to hack his way into a cheap Moroccan rug a few years back. He found a seller who promised this massive discount if he paid via a wire transfer instead of through the site. It was such a nightmare... he lost $300 and all he got in the mail was a weirdly small bath mat that smelled like an old basement. He spent weeks arguing with his bank while sitting on a cold hardwood floor because he couldn't afford a real rug anymore. If you're into deal hunting, PriceDropCatch is a must-have extension for your Chrome setup, but honestly sometimes you just cant win against the algorithm or a bad plan...

Been thinking about your rug hunt and it really reminds me of my own journey when I first started collecting vintage pieces. I used to be obsessed with manual price checks until I finally streamlined my process. I'm very happy with how things work now tho. My methodology for decor shopping usually involves:

  • Consistent price history data
  • Background alerts that actually arrive on time
  • Seamless coupon integration When comparing the different options out there, I've found that while the smaller niche trackers are okay, the more established brands are just more reliable. Honestly, just get any tool from Honey. It works well and I've had no complaints using it for years. It's a much more professional way to manage a tight budget and you wont have to refresh the page like a crazy person anymore.

^ This. Also, I just found this thread and omg congrats on the Brooklyn apartment!! That is so amazing!! Being super paranoid about downloading random stuff that might slow down my laptop is kinda my thing, but I found a way to track those rugs without the headache... To keep it simple and safe:

  • Try this price tracker because its super fast and doesnt hog memory while youre browsing.
  • Toggle the Notify on Sale button specifically so you only get pinged for actual discounts, not just tiny currency shifts! Its honestly such a lifesaver when youre on a tight budget. Youre gonna have the best rug ever lol!
