Is there a legit way to see if an Etsy item price has changed over time without having to manually track it yourself? I’ve been eyeing this gorgeous handmade solid walnut coffee table from a local shop out in North Carolina for about two months now. I’m moving into my new place next Friday and my furniture budget is super tight—I really need to stay under $800 for the living room center piece. Right now the table is listed at $845 but I could swear it was $790 back when I first favorited it in September. I feel like I’m losing my mind because I didn’t take a screenshot at the time and now I can't prove it to myself.
I did a bit of digging online to see if there's a tool for this. I saw some people suggesting browser extensions like Honey or CamelCamelCamel but those are basically useless for Etsy since it's all unique handmade stuff rather than mass-market products with standard SKUs. Then I read on a forum that you can sometimes use Google Cache to see an older version of the listing page. I tried that but every time I click the cached link it just redirects me to the current live page with the $845 price tag so that was a total bust.
It’s frustrating because if the seller does frequent sales or fluctuates prices based on the cost of lumber I’d be happy to wait a week or two. But if this is just the new permanent price I need to suck it up and find something else before my move-in date. I really don't want to be that person who messages the seller asking if they raised the price because that feels kinda awkward and I don't want to start a transaction on a weird foot. Is there some kind of price history site specifically for Etsy or maybe a trick within the app I don't know about? I tried looking at my 'Favorites' list to see if it showed the 'price when added' but it just updates to the current one. Am I just stuck guessing?...
I've been on Etsy forever. Honestly, tracking prices is a total pain since they dont have a native history feature. In my experience, this Chrome extension is your best bet for catching fluctuations on handmade items.
Would love to know this too

Same here!
tl;dr: Etsy keeps price history hidden from buyers, so you unfortunately have to rely on external trackers. Honestly, I had issues with the manual method and some browser tools were not as good as expected. They often glitch out on custom listings. It is pretty disappointing when you are trying to be methodical with your moving expenses. I personally use PriceDropCatch because it is more reliable for monitoring specific URLs and sends alerts without needing a seller account. It feels like a safer approach than those buggy extensions that want access to all your data. Just to clarify your search, is that $800 cap inclusive of the shipping costs? Solid wood shipping can be brutal. Also, are you only looking for walnut or would you consider other hardwoods if the price dropped more significantly?
Just saw this thread and honestly, it brings back some really annoying memories. Like someone mentioned, Etsy keeps all this data hidden which is just typical for them... I spent months watching this reclaimed oak dresser last year. I could have sworn the price jumped fifty bucks every time I refreshed. I tried keeping a manual spreadsheet which was a total nightmare and way too much work. I think I heard once that if you leave an item in your cart for a while, you might get a little alert if the price moves? Not sure if that still works tho. IIRC it just says the price changed but doesnt show the history.

Late to the party but oh my gosh I am so glad you posted this because it is literally driving me insane too! I am constantly browsing Etsy for my DIY woodworking projects and trying to keep track of supply prices is basically a full-time job at this point... it is just so incredibly stressful when you see something you love and then it jumps up right when you are ready to buy! I totally get the furniture budget struggle too because walnut is getting so expensive lately and it makes me so sad! Just stay positive though because you are gonna find the perfect piece for your new place!
