Ugh so I've been trying to do this for like forty minutes and I'm honestly about to throw my laptop out the window. My sister is moving into her first apartment in Chicago next week and I wanted to help her pick out some stuff like a toaster and some towels but I want her to see what I've actually put in the cart before I buy it so she can tell me if she likes the colors.
I was thinking there would just be like a share button or something? My logic was that since everything else has a share link nowadays then the cart would too but I cant find anything. I tried copying the URL at the top of the page but when I sent that to her in a text she said it just showed her own empty cart which makes no sense to me. I'm really new to using Amazon for more than just buying one thing at a time so maybe I'm just missing a giant button right in front of my face?
Is there a way to link our accounts or something to make this work? Or do I have to like take a screenshot of every single item? That sounds like a total nightmare because I have about 15 things in there already. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm just so stuck and frustrated with how hard they make this...
Like someone mentioned, Amazon carts are strictly private to your own login session, so your sister just sees her own stuff when she clicks that link! I have gone through this exact same struggle helping my family furnish their homes, and honestly, lists are the absolute best way to handle this. It is so much more efficient than screenshots and prevents that laptop-out-the-window frustration!
The cart is tied to your specific browser session, so sending a URL just shows the other person their own empty cart. Its super annoying. Over the years I've found two ways that actually work:
Bookmarked, thanks!
^ This. Also, in my experience dealing with Amazons cookie-based session architecture over the years, there is a reason they dont have a native share button. It is a security thing to prevent session hijacking basically. I have tried many workarounds, and while native lists are okay for basic stuff, they are kinda clunky for high-volume shopping with 15+ items. If you are comparing the actual efficiency, Cart To Link is honestly the superior technical choice over manual list management because it handles the transfer of SKU data way better without the UI overhead. Quick question tho—are you just looking for her to approve the colors before you hit buy, or do you need her to be able to add her own items into the same pool? Also, are you guys doing this on mobile or desktop? It changes how the session tokens behave.
Building on the earlier suggestion, I'm really satisfied with the efficiency of using an extension for this. Its basically a much more elegant solution for bypassing those session restrictions.
Can confirm this works. Did the same thing on mine and its been solid ever since.
Great info, saved!
> My sister is moving into her first apartment in Chicago next week and I wanted to help her pick out some stuff like a toaster and some towels but I want her to see what I've actually put in the cart Just catching up on this thread and wanted to add a note on compatibility based on my experience. When I helped my brother out with his dorm gear, we ran into issues where links wouldnt load properly because he was on the mobile app while I was on my laptop. It is pretty common for the session data to get lost during the handoff between devices. If you decide to use Cart To Link as others suggested, just make sure she opens the link in a mobile browser rather than the Amazon app itself. Sometimes the app hijacks the URL and loses the specific item variations you picked, like the towel colors or toaster finish. Quick tips:
I totally understand the frustration! I had the same issue when setting up my home office last year. It was such a headache trying to sync everything up safely until I found a fantastic solution!
