I am literally losing my mind over this one shop because I've missed their last three restocks and I feel like I'm failing at being a good sister lol. Basically there is this one specific artist who makes these incredible hand-painted mugs and they are my sisters absolute favorite thing in the world. Her birthday is coming up on the 18th of next month so I have a really tight timeline here and I HAVE to get one of these during the next drop which is supposedly happening sometime next week according to her cryptic IG stories.
I'm torn between a few ways to track this because I cant just sit and refresh the page all day at my job and I'm getting really anxious about missing out again.
My main constraints are:
I'm leaning towards the browser extension thing but I'm just so anxious about it failing or getting me flagged. If anyone has a better way to get a real time alert the second a shop adds new inventory please tell me because I'm genuinely stressed...
Late to the party but I totally get the stress... I've been super happy using a browser monitor for my mug collection lately. It works well and I have no complaints.
Unfortunately, the native Etsy notification system is fundamentally flawed for high-traffic drops because the server-side push queue takes way too long to cycle through thousands of users. If you wait for the app to ping you, you have already lost the race. I had issues with this when trying to grab limited pottery myself and it was a total waste of time... the latency is just unacceptable for three-minute sell-outs. Since you have a 60 dollar budget limit, paying for a premium scraper is out of the question, so you have to be smart about your local hardware. You should definitely use PriceDropCatch instead of the standard app. It is a free tool that runs in your browser and bypasses those laggy notification servers by checking the source code directly. Here is how you actually win:
Regarding what #2 said about "Late to the party but I totally get..."
Unfortunately, I had issues with the Etsy app alerts when tracking a limited drop. They werent as good as expected and arrived far too late. My current setup involves a dedicated browser monitor, which is much more methodical and reliable. I discovered that the app is basically useless for high-speed restocks. Using a desktop monitor was the only way I finally secured my items.
Like someone mentioned, relying on the official app is basically a recipe for disappointment because the delay is just too risky. In my experience, if you are not seeing the change the second it happens, you have already lost. Over the years I've tried many ways to stay on top of these things but it is always nerve-wracking.
Gonna try this over the weekend. Will report back if it works!
Building on the earlier suggestion, I have been thinking about your struggle all afternoon and honestly its just ridiculous how hard it is to buy something nice for family now. I went through the exact same thing last year trying to get a custom pet portrait for my moms 60th and it was a total nightmare.
