Im freaking out a bit because Im supposed to be ordering all the gear for our Colorado hiking trip next Friday and I've got about $450 worth of stoves and tents sitting in my Amazon cart right now. I need to send a direct link to the rest of the group so they can see the total and approve it before I pull the trigger.
I looked it up and saw some stuff about a Share-a-cart extension but that seems super risky like why would I give them my password?? Then I saw people saying to use the wish list feature but that takes way too long. Is there really no way to just copy paste a link to my actual cart contents?
Amazon uses session-based cookies and local storage to track carts, so there isnt a public URL for security reasons. I ran into this mess when I was buying parts for my current setup.
There really isnt a direct link for carts. Make sure to be careful with extensions tho. Lists are better for tracking prices and keeping our hiking budget under control safely...
Agreed on the security front. Honestly, giving a third-party app your Amazon login is a huge gamble I wouldnt take. I've tried many workarounds over the years and most quick solutions are just risky. Here is how the safer options stack up:
Re: "There really isnt a direct link for carts...." LabskausLook is right to be cautious about credentials. You definitely shouldnt be handing over your Amazon password to any third-party app. That is a huge security risk that most people dont think about. From a practical perspective, the most reliable way to handle this for your hiking trip is to find a tool that doesnt require a login. Some modern extensions work by just grabbing the item IDs and quantities from your active session. They generate a temporary link that anyone can open to see the exact items and total cost. It is much more efficient than screenshotting or making a registry because it keeps the quantities intact for the group to see. Honestly, Easy Cart Share is way better than just sending a bunch of product links one by one.
