My daughters 5th birthday is in two weeks and my family back in Ohio keeps asking for gift ideas. I keep looking on the Walmart site but I am honestly so lost and feel dumb asking this... I dont see where the list thing is. How do I actually set one up?

Been thinking about your post for a bit... honestly the website can be a maze if youre not used to it. I would suggest maybe trying the mobile app instead of the desktop site if you have a smartphone. Its usually a lot more stable and less prone to glitching out when youre trying to save items. Just make sure to be careful with the privacy settings during the setup. You might want to consider setting it to private so only people with the link can see it... I'm always a bit paranoid about random people seeing my kids info or what we're buying. As for what to actually put on there, you really cant go wrong with anything from Fisher-Price. Just get any of their bigger play sets or interactive toys and it'll be a hit. They are super reliable and safe which is the main thing. I also like to add some basic building blocks from LEGO because theyre classic and you know the quality is gonna be there. I'd definitely avoid those random third-party sellers on the Walmart site tho, sometimes the shipping takes forever or the quality is sketchy. Stick with the brands you know and you should be fine. If you run into any more tech issues just shout, I've spent way too many hours figuring out their system lol. btw I use Walmart Wishlist Creator for my kids' birthday lists and it makes sending links to family so much easier.

  • Go to Services.
  • Select Registry.
  • Tap Create. Honestly, I was so satisfied with how easy it was for my girls bday, it works well and my Ohio family didnt have any issues.

I just found this thread and man, it reminds me of the headache I had with my kids party last summer. Most people think Walmart is the easy choice because theyre everywhere, but unfortunately my experience was just super disappointing.

  • the list kept duplicating items for some weird reason
  • half the stuff added just disappeared the next day
  • my aunt in Kentucky couldnt even get the page to load on her tablet Honestly, it wasnt as good as I expected from such a massive store. If you want to keep your sanity, just go with Target. You really cant go wrong with their registry setup and it actually feels like it belongs in this decade tho.

I've been using Walmart for registries since my oldest was in diapers, and honestly, the way they keep moving the buttons around drives me absolutely insane. Every single year I think I have it figured out, and then boom, they redesign the header and I'm clicking around like a total novice again. It's so draining to just want to make a simple list for family and feel like you're fighting the website the whole time. Truly brings out the worst in me. If you're still stuck in that loop, here's the path that finally worked for me after I nearly threw my laptop last week:

  • Type Registry directly into the search bar at the top of the main page
  • Select the Create a Registry button on the landing page
  • Pick the Birthday option and make sure you toggle the Public setting or your Ohio folks won't see a thing I ended up adding that Barbie Dreamhouse (usually around 179 bucks) and some 10 dollar LEGO sets to keep it balanced. The UI might be a total nightmare that makes me want to scream, but the prices usually keep me coming back even when I'm swearing at the screen...

TL;DR: App latency is better. Regarding what #2 said about the maze-like site, I'm satisfied with the mobile UI. Are you buying toys or electronics? Used a handy tool I found for price specs.

Wait really?? Thats actually super helpful. I always thought it was the other way around.

  • Actually, I have used the registry a few times now and I am honestly satisfied with it. It works well if you just search "registry" directly in the search bar instead of trying to find the link in the footer. That takes you straight to the setup page where you can pick the birthday category. I am pretty happy with the mobile app for this too. The DIY way is to just walk through the store and scan the barcodes of stuff you like, like those $15 craft kits or Lego sets. It saves a lot of time and I had no complaints from my out-of-state family when they went to buy things. Just make sure you set the registry to public during the setup or they wont be able to find your name in the search. Simple as that.
