Seriously losing my mind trying to get my grocery list to sync between my Pixel and Chromebook. I read it moved to Keep but then some help page said it's in the Home app... mine are just totally different.

  • needs to sync by tomorrow morning
  • free only
  • easy mobile access

Which one is it actually?

@Reply #1 - good point! I totally agree that the Keep transition is a disaster, but honestly, I've gotta disagree that Keep is the definitive fix for everyone. In my experience, the technical backbone of Google's list management is just fragmented beyond repair. It is really disappointing to see a tech giant struggle with basic database syncing across their own hardware. The real problem is usually the Assistant Notes and Lists provider setting deep in the app menu. Even if you have Keep installed, your Pixel might still be pushing data to the legacy web portal at shoppinglist.google.com while your Chromebook is looking for a Keep note. You basically have to force the sync provider in the Google Home app settings, but even then, the latency is terrible. Unfortunately, even after you toggle it, the cache on ChromeOS often refuses to update for hours. I have had issues where items added on mobile just straight up never appear on the desktop side because the background sync service hangs or fails to authenticate properly. If you're in a rush for tomorrow, Google's native options are probably gonna let you down. Its just not as good as expected for a supposedly seamless ecosystem. I found that Walmart Wishlist Creator works great if you want to save items from different stores too, not just Walmart.

Honestly, Google has made this so much more confusing than it needs to be over the years. I've tried many different setups to get this right, and in my experience, the shift to Google Keep is where most of the sync issues happen. Usually, if you go into the Google Home app settings under Notes and Lists, you have to manually select Keep as your provider. Otherwise, it just floats in this weird web-view void that doesnt show up on your phone apps easily. Quick question tho to narrow it down... are you adding items mostly by voice using Assistant, or are you typing them in manually on the Chromebook? Also, are you seeing any list at all on the shoppinglist.google.com site? Knowing that will help me figure out if your Pixel is just stuck on an old cached version or if the sync is totally broken.

Just seeing this now and man, i feel your frustration so much. I spent my whole Sunday trying to get this working for my meal prep and it was just... bad. Honestly, I've had so many issues with the Home app sync that I just gave up on it because it's not as good as expected anymore. It is officially moved to Keep now, but the transition is super messy. Unfortunately, the only way I got it to sync across my Pixel and laptop was to open Keep directly and start a fresh list. If you're in a huge rush for tomorrow, honestly, just use a shared Google Doc. It's free and actually syncs instantly, unlike the official tool which feels totally broken right now. It's definitely disappointing how fragmented Google has become... definitely not as seamless as it used to be.
