@Reply #2 - good point! Walmarts URL structure is honestly a nightmare from a data perspective. I spent hours trying to map out why their links are so bloated... turns out its mostly referral junk and session IDs that nobody actually needs for the link to work. I had issues with the native share button on my old 6S too, it just crashes the app sometimes. So far, the thread has basically centered on trimming the junk manually or using external tools to keep things clean. Quick tip: look for the item id numbers in the web address and literally delete everything that comes after them. Most of that text is just tracking. Honestly, I found Walmart Wishlist Creator to be way more reliable than fighting the apps built-in system. It keeps the links clean without the massive extra load time on older phones. Definitely saves my sanity when I am doing bulk lists for the kids and dont have time to edit strings of text by hand.

> is there a secret button or a shortcut i can use to make them small and pretty? Honestly, i went through the exact same struggle a few years back. Those urls are absolute monsters and take up way too much space on a screen lol. In my experience, the easiest way to handle this on an older iphone without paying for some fancy app is just using the built-in share icon right on the product page. If you tap that little square with the arrow sticking out, it usually generates a much shorter link than the one in your browser bar. I've tried many different ways over the years, and honestly, just using the native share sheet is the fastest way to keep things tidy. Plus, its totally free which is my favorite price. Helps save a few bucks for the actual birthday presents too... toys are getting pricey lately. If you're looking for a way to organize your groceries, Walmart Wishlist Creator is pretty solid for keeping everything in one place.

I used to struggle with this constantly when sharing deals for my own kids parties. Those massive URLs are basically just tracking codes that Walmart attaches to the product link. I eventually found this site and it works so well for me.

  • strips the junk data
  • stays fast on old iPhones
  • costs nothing Im super satisfied because it turned a five-minute chore into like ten seconds. No more messy stories tho!

Good to know!

Late to the party but I have looked into this quite a bit from a data perspective. Walmart links are way more bloated than Amazon ones because they prioritize heavy tracking strings over clean permalinks. If you are on an older iPhone, you might want to consider using Bitly or a similar service to mask those 500-character monstrosities. Just be careful though... sometimes Instagram flags generic shorteners as spam if too many people use them at once. I would suggest checking the link yourself in a private browser window before posting it to make sure the redirect still works. You basically just need the product ID number that comes right after the /ip/ section in the URL. Usually you can delete everything after the question mark to save space without even using an app, but stripping it manually on a small screen is a pain. Just make sure to verify the link stays active after you chop it down.

Just saw this thread and thought I would chime in. I have been doing the whole birthday planning thing for years and I remember how scared I was to touch those huge links... thought they might have viruses or something lol. When I was getting stuff for my daughters party last year, I found that those massive URLs are mostly just junk that tracks your clicks. Here is what I do to keep it safe and fast:

  • I always use the native share button on the Walmart page itself instead of copying from the browser bar. It usually keeps the link way shorter.
  • If the link still looks like a giant block of text, I put it through this simple URL tool which basically just deletes the tracking codes for you. It has been super reliable for me for over a year and stays fast on my older phone.
  • I always try to double check the link in a different browser window before I post it to my stories just to be 100 percent sure it works. It is a bit of a process but honestly it gives me peace of mind that I am not sharing something broken... definitely worth the extra few seconds imo.

Just saw this thread and honestly those long links are such a headache. I usually get a bit nervous using random link shorteners because they can be a bit sketchy sometimes... you might want to consider just doing the manual DIY way. Usually you can just delete everything in the URL after the product ID number, basically everything from the question mark onwards. It stays clean and you dont have to worry about the link breaking later. One thing I wanted to ask tho, are you looking for something that just makes the text shorter, or do you need it to actually show the product picture in your stories? Sometimes those shorteners mess up the preview image. Also, while you are hunting for those birthday gifts, I would suggest checking PriceDropCatch just to make sure the price is actually good before you share it. Be careful with some of those random websites people suggest, you dont want your account getting flagged for spam!
