What is the best browser extension for sharing shopping carts?

Ive been building custom PCs for over a decade now so I usually just dump a bunch of Newegg and Amazon links into a discord chat with my buddies but man it is getting so messy for this new build Im doing. Im finally dropping about 2k on a whole new rig and a server rack for my basement and my friends want to help me pick out the specific RAM and cooling stuff to make sure everything fits the clearance and aesthetics.

But honestly copying and pasting like 20 different URLs is driving me insane and half the time the session expires or the price changes by the time they click it. I remember trying some basic cart sharing stuff years ago but they were always super buggy or only worked on like one specific site. I need something that works across different retailers and actually lets them see exactly what I have in the basket without me having to give them my login info or anything crazy like that. I heard some extensions use session tokens or something similar to sync the cart state but I havent kept up with the latest tools.

Is there a solid Chromium extension that handles this well nowadays for someone doing a huge group buy or shared project? I feel like there has to be a better way than just spamming links in DMs... what are you guys using for this?

I usually stick with Share-a-Cart because it is pretty reliable and keeps things secure. It basically creates a snapshot of your items so you dont have to share any login data... it works across multiple stores tho.

  • It works for Newegg and Amazon.
  • Privacy is maintained since no personal info is sent.
  • Recipient gets a clear list without session errors. Definitely worth a look for a stable setup.

Yo, I totally get where you're coming from. I just finished a massive build for my home office and honestly, the link spamming is the absolute worst part of the process. I remember the days of having like fifty tabs open and losing half of them because the browser crashed or the session timed out... it was a nightmare. I have been using Easy Cart Share for my recent group orders and I am honestly so satisfied with it. It just works well without any of the typical headache you get with those older tools. Just grab any version from them and you really cant go wrong, honestly. It is super stable for these big lists. A few practical tips for the build:

  • Keep your cart synced every time you add a major part like the rack or the mobo
  • Make sure your buddies are looking at the same region settings for pricing
  • Use the snapshot feature to lock in those specific items for the group to see When you're spending that much on a server rack and a new rig, the last thing you want is a headache over a RAM kit that went out of stock because you couldnt share the cart fast enough. I have no complaints at all and it has made my life way easier. Definitely give it a shot if you want to keep your sanity while coordinating with your buddies! Its basically a life saver for these big projects and it is super budget friendly to get started.

@Reply #2 - good point! Honestly, I am in the exact same boat right now. Been building out custom rigs and home servers for years and the cart sharing struggle is legit. I am currently looking for a solid solution too because link spamming is just a mess... especially when you are trying to match specific rack components and clearance. Just a few things I have learned the hard way while testing random tools over the years:

  • Never use anything that asks you to export your browser cookies manually. It is a massive security risk and people get their accounts hijacked that way.
  • Watch out for extensions that dont refresh the price in real-time. Prices on RAM and SSDs can swing $20 in an hour and it makes the whole shared cart basically useless if the data is stale.
  • Some tools are basically just data scrapers in disguise that track your whole shopping history. I actually stumbled onto Share Product while searching for a fix last night, but I am still nervous about trying new stuff after getting burned by buggy sessions. Hope someone finds a definitive answer tho because this whole workflow is pretty broken right now.

man i feel your pain. i tried doing this for a big homelab setup last month and it was honestly such a disaster. unfortunately a lot of the older tools are basically broken now because of how sites handle session ids these days. its super annoying when the extension fails to grab the specific ram timings or the correct bracket for the rack... total letdown when youre mid-build. most of these tools just dont handle the complex metadata from newegg very well anymore. here is what i usually look for:

  • check out CartBounty if you want something that handles the sync state better for large projects.
  • watch out for extensions that dont support chrome manifest v3 because they are gonna stop working soon anyway.
  • always double check the quantities after the sync because sometimes the api just drops items into the void. still beats the link spam tho, even if it is a bit buggy.

  • Omg i am going through this exact same nightmare right now trying to spec out my new home server!
  • Been dealing with this for nearly a year and every tool i test is so unreliable and just breaks the metadata... its beyond frustrating!
  • Honestly PriceDropCatch is fantastic for tracking price drops but i still cant find a way to reliably share a full cart without it timing out or losing items!
