trying to prep for my sisters bachelorette trip in Miami and need a shared list. I saw you can invite people to a Wish List but some posts say they cant actually add stuff themselves, just view it?

  • must let 6 people add items
  • need to see who added what

is there a specific setting for this?

Just use the view and edit link. I did that for a trip last month and it works. Everyone added stuff and their names showed up clearly on the list.

Omigosh Miami bachelorette! That is going to be such an amazing trip!! Honestly planning these things is like a second full-time job but it is so worth it for the memories. Before you get too far into the setup, I gotta ask - are you guys planning to buy everything in one giant order or is everyone just grabbing their own stuff from the list? Knowing that is super important for the logistics! I am always a bit paranoid about list settings because once you send out a link it is out there, but the Amazon Invite to Edit feature is actually pretty solid if you do it right. You have to click the plus sign to invite people and specifically choose the View and Edit toggle. If you just send the standard link, they will be stuck just looking at your cute decor ideas without being able to help out! I love that it tags each item with the name of the person who added it so there is no confusion later. It is fantastic for staying organized. If you are worried about the native app being glitchy (which it kind of can be tbh), you should definitely look into easy amazon cart sharing options. Some people find third-party tools way safer for managing a big group without accidentally deleting the whole list. Just make sure everyone is actually logged into their own Amazon account before they start clicking around or it wont track the names properly... that is the most common way people mess it up!

Building on the earlier suggestion, I've done this for like three different bridal parties now and there is one huge trap you gotta avoid. Most people forget to toggle the Keep items on your list after they are purchased setting. If you dont check that, things just disappear once someone buys them and it makes it impossible to track the total budget. Trust me, I have seen people accidentally double-buy $50 worth of heart-shaped sunglasses because they thought the list was broken and the item just vanished. Also, watch those shipping costs if everyone is ordering separately. I started using this chrome extension to check if the prices were actually good before we all committed. In my experience, those bachelorette themed items get price-gouged like crazy once they trend. If you have 6 people adding stuff, it's gonna get messy fast. Just make sure everyone knows to leave a comment on the item after they buy it so you arent stuck with 10 extra bags of pink confetti... it happens more than youd think.

Exactly what I was thinking

Honestly, the Amazon list feature is decent for simple stuff but it gets messy with 6+ people adding things at once. It is technically designed for gifting, so the collaboration tools are a bit basic. If you find the Amazon settings too annoying, you might want to look at the Walmart Cart Share extension. It is built specifically for this kind of group planning and makes the checkout part way less of a headache. A few quick pros and cons to keep in mind:

  • Amazon has more variety for niche bachelorette themes.
  • Walmart is usually cheaper for bulk items like snacks, drinks, and generic decor.
  • Third-party extensions usually handle the who added what tracking better than native Amazon lists do. If you stick with Amazon, just make sure you use the invite link specifically labeled for collaborators. If you just send the regular share link, they will only be able to view. It is a super common mistake that wastes a lot of time tbh.

Ugh, I tried doing this for a family reunion and it was honestly a letdown. Amazon says it works for groups but it felt so glitchy when more than two people tried adding stuff at the same time... super frustrating. If you really want to try it, here is what I did to make it somewhat functional:

  • Send the specific invite link via text
  • Make sure everyone is logged into their own accounts
  • Check PriceDropCatch before buying anything because party decor prices are all over the place Honestly though, the native Amazon tools are just not as good as expected for this. I ended up just using a random list extension from Google to manage everything. Just grab any basic one from Google and it will probably handle the collaboration way better than the actual site does... good luck with the planning tho!
