What is the easiest way to share a Walmart birthday list?

My daughters 7th birthday is in two weeks and Im scrambling because we live in a small town where Walmart is basically the only option for toys. I spent way too long making a list on the app but now I cant figure out how to actually send it to my sisters so they dont buy the same stuff.

I read that you can make a registry but that seems way too formal for a kids party and someone else said you can just copy the link from the My Items section but when I tried it on my husbands phone it showed up totally blank. Is there a way to just share a basic list that updates as people buy things or am I stuck just texting screenshots...

Honestly, the Walmart app has been my go-to for years for kids birthdays and I am always satisfied with how the registry feature handles everything. You mentioned it feels too formal, but trust me, it is really the only way to get that real-time update feature you are looking for. A standard list in the My Items section is basically just for your own personal shopping and wont track purchases from other people. That is exactly why your husband saw a blank screen. Here is the most methodical way to set this up so it actually works:

  • Convert that list into a Birthday Registry instead of a basic My Items list. You can find this in the app under the Gift Registry section in the services tab.
  • Ensure you set the privacy to Shared. This allows your sisters to view the contents without needing your login credentials or weird app permissions.
  • Use the specific Share button at the top right of the registry page. This generates a unique URL that bypasses the typical errors you get with standard lists. This method has worked perfectly for the last several birthdays I have organized. No duplicates at all. The interface is clean and it makes it way easier for family members who arent super tech-savvy. Plus, you get a tracking dashboard to see whats been grabbed already... it just works well and keeps things organized without the screenshot mess.

Is there a way to just share a basic list that updates as people buy things Jumped in to say that the reason it is showing up blank is likely because those My Items lists are private by default. Walmart basically locks those to your specific login session. Even if you try to share the link, it wont let anyone else see it unless you specifically toggle it to shared, but even then, it doesnt track what people have already bought in real-time. Its super annoying, honestly. I have had a lot of success just using the registry tool instead. It works well and I have had no complaints from my family who are mostly tech-illiterate. The main benefit is the inventory tracking. When someone buys that doll or bike, it actually marks it off so you dont end up with duplicates. If you want to get a bit more advanced and maybe include stuff from other shops too, I have been using this Chrome extension which makes the whole process way smoother. It lets you pull in items from anywhere but still keeps your main list organized in one spot. Basically, the registry is the only way to get that real-time update you need. Just name it something casual like Sams 7th Bday so it doesnt feel so formal.

  • Make sure the list is set to Public in settings.
  • Use the share icon inside the actual registry dashboard.
  • Check it in an incognito window before sending the link out to everyone. It is way better than the screenshot mess, trust me.

I tried to go the DIY route for my nephews birthday last summer because I didnt want to deal with the registry stuff either. It was such a headache... people kept buying the same lego sets because the sync failed. Honestly if youre looking for a quick fix that actually works, just go to YouTube and search for walmart list sharing chrome extension. I saw this one video that explains a perfect workaround thats way faster than what we are talking about here. Pretty sure its the first result if you just look for walmart gift list hacks. Much easier than fighting with the app settings yourself... just simpler than messing with the app imo.

Re: "> I would suggest being careful with the..." - yeah, honestly CamdenCool is right on the money. I have been using Walmart for years and it is super disappointing how their list sharing still feels like it is from 2005. It is really not as good as expected for a major store. So basically, we have figured out that the app is buggy and the private lists wont share. If you are scrambling, here is what I would do:

  • Skip the My Items section entirely since it is private.
  • If you use the registry, double check it on a second device.
  • Try a handy tool for sharing carts to bypass some of the app headaches. I have had so many issues with their sync failing that I usually just use an external wishlist site now. It is a bit extra work but it saves the headache of getting three of the same Lego set... tho I guess a kid wouldnt mind that much lol. Hope the party goes well!

Works great for me

@Reply #2 - good point! I would suggest being careful with the Walmarts app sync tho. Make sure to use a dedicated gift tracker instead to avoid double buys and price errors, honestly...
