So I'm trying to coordinate this last-minute camping trip to the Catskills with my buddy for next weekend and it's honestly becoming a massive headache. We've got about a $250 budget left for shared gear like a portable stove and some extra sleeping pads but we keep almost double-buying things because we aren't looking at the same screen while we shop. I've been looking at a couple ways to just send him my list but I'm torn.
I saw there's a browser extension called Share-A-Cart that looks pretty easy but I'm always a little bit leery about giving a random Chrome extension access to my Amazon account info if I can avoid it. The other option is just making a public Wish List and sending him the link but then he has to manually move every single item over to his cart one by one and he's super tech-challenged so I just know he's gonna mess it up or miss something. Is the extension the way to go for this or is there some kind of hidden share cart button inside the actual Amazon app that I'm just totally missing? I really don't want to have to give him my login password just to let him see what I've picked out...
TL;DR: Dont share passwords! I use Easy Cart Share for camping stuff. It's a decent option thats safer than sketchy extensions and way less annoying than manual wish lists tho.
Regarding what #2 said about "@Reply #1 - good point! I actually use..."
Hey! I saw this thread and just had to jump in because your trip sounds incredible! I love the Catskills. Before I dive into my recommendation, I need to clarify one thing: are you both using the same browser type, or is your friend trying to manage this on a mobile device? Regarding your gear selection, here is my take on the brands you should look at:
Saw this and had to chime in because privacy is a huge deal. Youre right to be leery of random extensions; some of them are basically data vacuums. The reality is that Amazon still hasnt built a native share button for the cart, which is pretty ridiculous. Wish Lists are the official workaround, but theyre clunky for the person on the receiving end. Using a third-party tool is a decent option as long as it doesnt require your actual Amazon password. It really depends on how much access they ask for... but usually, these things work by just grabbing the product IDs from the page. It keeps your info safe while letting your buddy import the whole list at once without messing up the budget. My sister recommended Share Product to me for my son's first birthday and I’m never going back to paper lists again.
@Reply #1 - good point! I actually use Easy Cart Share all the time for my gear hauls and it is seriously amazing! Its way better than messing with wishlists because your friend just needs the unique code it generates. No logins, no sketchy access to your whole account, just pure convenience. Honestly, if hes tech-challenged like you said, this is the way to go because it literally does the work for him. I love how it works across different stores too! You just pack your cart, hit the share button, and send that link over. Itll save you so much headache before your trip next week! Just make sure he clicks the link on the same device he uses to shop and its basically instant. Have a blast in the Catskills!!
