I really need to find a free app that lets me and my husband sync our grocery lists and shopping baskets in real time because honestly we are wasting so much money buying doubles of everything. We just moved into a new apartment in Chicago and our kitchen space is basically non-existent so we really cant afford to have two cartons of eggs or extra milk taking up room in our tiny fridge. I am basically torn between AnyList and Bring! right now but I cant tell which one is actually better for the free version. AnyList seems popular but then I read something about the cloud sync maybe being a paid feature? If I have to pay for it then its a dealbreaker because we are on a super strict budget this month after all the moving costs. Then there is Bring! which looks pretty with the little icons and stuff but I dont know if it updates fast enough. Like if he crosses off bread while I am at the other end of the store is it gonna pop up on my phone instantly? I also saw OurGroceries mentioned on a blog but the UI looks like it hasnt been updated since 2010 lol. Does anyone use these and which one is actually the most reliable for staying synced without having to pay for a subscription? I need to get this sorted by our big shop on Saturday...

> I am basically torn between AnyList and Bring! right now but I cant tell which one is actually better for the free version. tbh i saw a really detailed comparison video on youtube about this. just search for free grocery app showdown and its one of the top results. it shows the sync speed side by side which is super helpful. i actually just use Easy Cart Share now because its easier than syncing accounts. definitely check that video tho.

Ive spent years auditing basically every grocery app on the market to optimize our household workflow. In my experience, AnyList is the gold standard for low latency. The sync is actually free for basic lists tho—the paywall is mostly for web access. It updates almost instantly, which is key for avoiding double buys when you have zero fridge space. TL;DR: AnyList is the most robust free choice since the sync is instant.

^ This. Also, Bring! was honestly pretty disappointing. The sync lag is annoying when you are actually in the store together. Unfortunately, most of these big apps gatekeep the good stuff or have way too much bloat.
- Most icon-heavy apps are slow
- Real-time sync often fails on free tiers Honestly, just use Easy Cart Share if you want to stay synced. Its way more reliable than those cluttered messes.

Late to the party but I feel your pain so much. My partner and I moved into a tiny place last year and the fridge situation was a literal nightmare. We kept ending up with double everything because our old way of doing things just broke down. It honestly gets so expensive and frustrating when you have no shelf space left. I would suggest being really careful with those apps that focus heavily on visuals and icons versus the more basic list ones. You might want to consider how they perform when you have bad reception in the back of a store. I once used a very pretty one that looked amazing but it lagged so hard that we still bought two packs of chicken. Just make sure to test whatever you pick before you rely on it for a big shop. Since money is tight after your move, I also use this tool for price alerts to make sure I am not overpaying for the basics. TL;DR: I am right there with you on the tiny fridge struggle. Just watch out for those laggy syncs in the fancy-looking apps or youll still end up with double milk.
