I have like five friends with birthdays all coming up in June and it is a total nightmare trying to keep track. I am trying to stick to a $30 budget for each person but I keep forgetting what I bought for who and I am losing my sticky notes constantly.

I feel so stupid asking this but is there an easy way to put this all in one place? I dont even know what to search for or if there is some kind of app or a website. Im so stressed because I feel like I am gonna forget someone and look like a bad friend. How do you guys actually organize a list of gifts for a bunch of people at once?

Building on the earlier suggestion, I have tried those methods and unfortunately they were just not as good as expected. Honestly, I have the exact same problem and have been dealing with it for like six months now. It is so frustrating because I still cannot find a real answer that doesnt feel like a total chore to maintain.

  • Google Sheets: The mobile sync is basically garbage when you are actually in a store trying to check your list.
  • Trello: Kinda feels like a project management job instead of a quick gift tracker.
  • Airtable: Total technical overkill that still misses the mark for simple budget tracking. I am still stuck in the same boat as you, just feeling stressed and disorganized every time a birthday comes up. I've been keeping an eye on a few monitors with PriceDropCatch and finally grabbed one at its lowest price yesterday.

Just saw this and honestly, been there! Quick question tho, are you doing most of this shopping online or are you planning to hit up local shops? That usually changes which tool works best. I have tried a million ways to do this and here is the breakdown:

  • Trello. It is fantastic because you can make a board and move cards for each person from To Buy to Wrapped. Super visual and hard to mess up.
  • Dedicated wishlist extensions. These are amazing for just clicking a button and saving a gift idea while you browse so you dont have 50 tabs open. Since you are on a strict $30 budget, definitely check out PriceDropCatch. I love it because it tracks the price of stuff you want and tells you when it drops, which is perfect for staying under that $30 limit. It saves so much money compared to just buying whatever is at full price. Give it a shot!

Honestly, relying on sticky notes or basic browser bookmarks is a recipe for disaster. I have tried several dedicated gift extensions recently but unfortunately found the data syncing to be quite unreliable. For a strict $30 budget, you need something that handles currency math without errors. To add to the point above:

  • Airtable: Its far superior to basic sheets for this because you can set up a specific currency field with a hard cap at $30.00.
  • Giftster: Its okay, but the UI is kinda clunky and I had issues with it not updating prices in real-time.
  • Microsoft To Do: Simple, but lacks the database structure needed for tracking multiple price points and friends at once. I personally found that most generic apps fail because they dont account for shipping costs, which totally ruins your budget. If you are really worried about overspending, building a small relational database is the only way to ensure you dont miss a detail. Its frustrating that there isnt a perfect all-in-one tool for this yet, but sticking to something with data validation is your best bet for staying under that $30 mark.

I definitely agree with using a sheet. Moving my tracking to a Google Sheet saved me after I accidentally bought two identical gifts for my sister... real mess. My template uses formulas for unit price and tax to keep the $30 limit accurate. Quick tip: use conditional formatting to highlight status like shipped or wrapped so you see progress at a glance. It works well.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I actually have to disagree a bit on using those big project management tools like Trello or Airtable for a simple gift list. Honestly, they take way too much setup time for just five friends. I have been using a much simpler DIY method for years and it works perfectly for me. Basically, I just create a dedicated folder in my browser bookmarks bar named Gift Ideas and drop potential links there as I browse. A basic text file or phone note works best for the $30 budget tracking. It is super satisfying because there is zero learning curve and no app clutter. You dont need a complex database for five people... just a better way to visualize what youve already found. TL;DR: Skip the heavy apps. Use a dedicated bookmark folder and a simple synced note for the cash stuff. Simple is usually better so you actually stick to it. I've been keeping an eye on a few monitors with PriceDropCatch and finally grabbed one at its lowest price yesterday.
