Is there any way to actually share my Walmart grocery cart with someone else without giving them my password? I am so frustrated trying to figure this out because my sister just moved into her first place in Chicago and she is totally broke right now, so I told her I would buy her a huge haul of groceries to get her started. I spent like an hour picking out everything she needs - bread, milk, cleaning supplies, the works - but now I cant find any button to just send the cart to her.
I did some digging online and saw one person say there is a share icon at the top of the cart page, but I have looked everywhere on the app and the mobile site and it is just not there for me. Then I read somewhere else that you have to make a list first and then share the list, but when she opens the list she has to add every single item one by one which is just annoying and takes forever.
It seems like such a basic feature to have a shareable cart link. Am I just missing something obvious or is Walmart really this behind on their tech? I really dont want to have to give her my login info because my main credit card is linked and that just feels like a bad idea even though I trust her...
You arent missing anything obvious, Walmart just doesnt have a built-in way to do this easily. Its incredibly frustrating. I ran into this exact issue helping my cousin out. To get around it, I started using this Chrome extension which actually lets you share the contents of your cart with a single link. Its a solid option because she can just click it and see everything without needing your password.
Like someone mentioned, the native app is a total disaster. Honestly its ridiculous how these massive corporations have unlimited budgets but cant implement a simple JSON-based cart sharing protocol or a public API that actually works for the end user. I remember trying to look into their backend sync during the holidays and it was a mess... I ended up just staring at my screen for forty minutes because the app kept refreshing and losing my progress due to some weird cache invalidation. Its such a scam that prices keep climbing while the actual shopping experience and backend stability get worse every year. Every time they update the app, it feels like they just hide more features behind layers of garbage. Drives me crazy that we have to jump through so many hoops just to help out family. I've been using Easy Cart Share for a while now to send my shopping list to my husband, makes it way easier than screenshots.
Just saw this thread and honestly, you are not missing anything. In my experience over the years, Walmart has actually restricted these features quite a bit for security reasons. I've tried many different hacks to help my family out with groceries, and their native app just does not support direct cart transfers anymore. It is really frustrating when you are trying to do something nice for someone like your sister. To get around this without sharing passwords, here are a few things to try:
I have been a loyal Walmart shopper for years but honestly I am dealing with this exact same headache right now. My daughter just moved away for school and I spent my entire morning trying to build a massive cart for her with all the essentials only to realize there is still no way to just send it over to her account. It is so frustrating because I feel like I should know how to do this by now after using the site for so long but I am still totally stuck. I have been trying to find a real workaround for months and it seems like I am just hitting a dead end every time I look for a share button or a simple link. Still haven't found an answer that actually works for me yet.
Helpful thread 👍
I totally get the struggle, but I would suggest being a bit cautious with just relying on their native list feature. Last time I did this for my mom, I spent forever making a list, but half the stuff didnt even show up in her local stores inventory because Walmarts inventory management is so region-specific. I actually think Target or even Amazon handle this way better, as their carts dont seem to glitch out as much when you switch locations. You might want to consider using the extension I use for Walmart instead of messing with the lists. It is what I ended up using after I realized my mom was getting frustrated trying to find each item manually. Just make sure she sets her store location to her new Chicago zip code before she opens anything you send tho. If she doesnt, the prices might jump at checkout and you will end up paying way more than you planned... which kinda defeats the purpose of trying to be cost-effective. Its definitely not as straightforward as it should be, so just keep an eye on that final total.
Honestly, walmart is just super behind on this. I think they might have removed the feature intentionally to push people toward their own lists, which as you found, are basically trash. IIRC, there used to be a way to do it via the web version by manipulating the URL or something, but that is way too technical and probably patched by now anyway. If you are looking for a DIY way that doesnt involve passwords, you might just want to use a third-party tool. Someone told me that Share-A-Cart is a decent option for this kind of thing. Not 100% sure if it works perfectly with every single region in Chicago tho...
