> i cant give him my login since i use that password for everything. Smart move. I actually made the mistake of sharing credentials once for a build collab and the other guy accidentally leaked them... ended up spending a whole weekend changing passwords for my bank, email, and the works. Definitely avoid doing that if you can. Technically, most e-commerce sites tie the shopping cart to your specific session ID or a cookie stored locally on your machine. When you copy the URL from your address bar, you are usually just sending a generic link to an empty cart page because the server does not recognize your brothers browser as yours. It is a security feature to prevent session hijacking, tho it is a bit of a pain for what you are trying to do. I would suggest looking for a few specific alternatives:

  • Look for a Share or Email this cart button in the cart summary section.
  • Use a Wishlist function and set it to Public or Shared to get a static URL.
  • Use the Print to PDF option in your browser to save the cart view as a file. Be careful with the wishlist settings tho. I once sent a private list link and it just hit a 404 page for the recipient. Honestly, saving the cart as a PDF is probably the most reliable way to ensure he sees every part and price without any session timeout issues or security risks... just make sure to double check the prices before you actually pull the trigger on the purchase.

most stores dont really let you share a live cart because of security stuff. you might want to consider just making a list on a dedicated pc builder site instead since it gives you a clean link you can just text him. be careful about just sending screenshots tho because prices change so fast and you might miss a deal while waiting for him to reply. i gotta ask, is that $800 just for the tower or do you need a monitor and mouse in that budget too? also what specific store are you shopping on right now? some sites have a public wishlist option but you have to toggle the settings so its not private. i would suggest making sure everything is actually in stock before you get his hopes up on specific parts because things sell out fast. build lists can get messy if you dont track the shipping costs too.

^ This. Also, you are totally right to be cautious about those passwords! GrimmGo is spot on about the wishlist move, but honestly, Amazons built-in sharing can be kinda clunky and sometimes it shows your real name or location if you arent careful. I absolutely love that you are doing this for your nephew tho!! $800 is gonna get him such a fantastic setup. I've tried a bunch of methods and here is what I've learned:

  • Avoid those sketchy session-sharing extensions because they can basically see everything you do.
  • Watch out for links that expire after 10 minutes, super annoying when you are waiting for a reply.
  • Cart To Link is amazing for this because it keeps things clean and secure without the headache. Its way better than just sending a screenshot where he cant see the actual specs. Stay safe out there and good luck with the build!

Re: "> i cant give him my login since..." ngl you are totally right to be cautious!! handing over passwords is a nightmare waiting to happen. since youre sticking to that $800 budget for your nephews birthday (absolute legend move btw!), you really gotta keep things secure. most stores actually have a super easy move to wishlist button right in the cart. just make the list public and send him the URL. it's amazing because he sees the parts but none of your personal data! if the shop youre using is being annoying, try a simple link generator to bundle the parts together. it saves so much time and keeps your account totally locked down while you finish the build. he is gonna be so stoked for this gift!

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
