So I'm finally getting around to setting up my home office in my new apartment here in Chicago and my list of stuff to buy on Amazon is getting way too long. I need a new 34 inch ultrawide monitor and a bunch of Hue bulbs but I keep seeing the prices jump around like crazy every day. Im trying to save at least 200 bucks across everything if possible so I can actually afford the desk I want lol.
Ive been looking at Keepa and CamelCamelCamel and honestly I cant tell which one is actually better for someone who isnt a pro at this. Keepa has those super detailed charts which look cool but also kind of overwhelming when I just want to know when a price drops? My logic was that Camel might be easier since its more basic but then I saw someone mention that Keepa updates faster or something. I also have Honey installed for coupons but their price tracking feels like an afterthought compared to the other two.
The timeline is about three weeks before I have to move in so I need to set these alerts up like yesterday.
Is Keepa too much for a casual user or is the extra data actually worth the learning curve? Or should I just stick with the camel site...
> Keepa has those super detailed charts which look cool but also kind of overwhelming Honestly, I felt the same way years ago but now I cant live without it. Over the years, I've seen brands hike prices right before sales just to claim a fake discount later. Keepas charts show that trick instantly. Using this tool for price alerts lets you set hard limits so you only buy when it hits your target. Its how I saved 300 bucks on my last ultrawide setup.
To add to the point above: Keepa really is the gold standard once you get past that initial what am I looking at phase. But before I get too deep into the weeds, which 34-inch monitor are you actually looking at? If its something like the Alienware or a high-end LG, those prices fluctuate on a very specific cycle compared to the budget brands like Gigabyte. Knowing the model helps because some of these brands have massive price swings every few weeks. In my experience, the reason Keepa wins over Camel is the granularity of the data. You can see things like the Buy Box history which basically tells you if Amazon is playing games with third-party sellers to keep the price high. Over the years, Ive managed to snag a full set of Hue bulbs for nearly 40% off just by watching the Used

Keepa is definitely the way to go if you want to be precise about that 200 dollar savings goal. I'm really satisfied with how it tracks everything right on the Amazon page without me having to go to a different site every five minutes. It looks complicated because it gives you everything at once, but you can actually toggle most of those layers off to make it look as simple as CamelCamelCamel if you want.
To add to the point above: everyone here is basically saying Keepa is the king, and they are right. In my experience over the years, the consensus usually lands there because it handles the data way better than Camel or Honey. I've tried many setups and here is why Keepa wins for your specific list:
@Reply #3 - good point! Honestly its ridiculous how much these retailers manipulate us now. In my experience, the sheer lack of transparency in tech pricing is basically a scam at this point. It drives me crazy that we even need tools just to avoid getting ripped off by sales that arent actually sales. Over the years Ive noticed the build quality on these 34 inch monitors and smart lighting sets is going downhill while the prices just keep climbing. Companies dont care about longevity or fair value anymore... its all about squeezing every penny. The lack of reliability in the market today is just exhausting and honestly its such a mess for anyone just trying to set up a decent workspace. You spend weeks researching specs only to realize the price history is a total rollercoaster of fake discounts. Its a joke.
