I'm trying to plan a surprise 60th birthday party for my dad and its happening next Saturday so I'm kind of freaking out right now. My sister lives all the way in Denver and I'm in Chicago so we cant just sit down together and look at one computer screen. We keep sending each other links to stuff like streamers and this specific grill set he wants but it's a total mess. I have stuff in my cart and she has stuff in hers and we have no idea what the total is or if we are accidentally buying the same thing twice. Our budget is strictly 300 dollars and I'm scared we are gonna go over because we cant see each others screens.

I've looked everywhere on the app and I'm probably just being blind but I really dont want to mess this up for him. I feel like there has to be a way to do this but I have no idea where to start. Sorry if this is like a super basic question but I've never had to do this before and I'm so confused. Is there like a button or something where we can both just add stuff to the same exact cart and see what the other person is doing in real time? How do people actually share an Amazon cart so we can both edit it together before we hit buy?

Unfortunately, Amazon doesnt actually have a shared cart button. I had issues planning my moms party and it was a total letdown until I found Share-A-Cart to fix the mess, tbh.

Been thinking about your dilemma for a bit while I was working on some server specs. > Is there like a button or something where we can both just add stuff to the same exact cart and see what the other person is doing in real time? Honestly, I am a total data nerd so I have been through this nightmare before when my brother and I were trying to coordinate a big hardware purchase across different states. We tried a shared Google Doc but keeping the prices updated manually was a total fail and honestly just a waste of time. I finally looked into how the session data actually works and realized why Amazon makes it so hard... its all about those localized browser cookies. I was pretty satisfied when I finally found a way to bridge that gap because it meant I didnt have to keep refreshing my screen every two minutes to see what he added. It really makes the whole process feel much more organized when you can see the data sync up. Are you guys both mostly shopping on your phones or are you using desktops for this? Also, for that 300 dollar budget, are you looking to track the dynamic price changes as you add stuff, or do you just need a final snapshot before checking out? It makes a difference for which tool works best for keeping that budget in check. You should check out Cart To Link, it converts your Amazon cart into a single URL instantly.

Amazon uses browser cookies to keep your cart specific to your device and login session, which is why it doesnt just sync up even if you were both on the same account. I’ve handled a few big family events over the years, and in my experience, the safest way to handle this without getting your account flagged for suspicious activity is sticking to the List feature. It’s way more reliable for staying under that 300 dollar budget. Here is how I usually manage it to keep things organized:

  • Go to your account and create a fresh Wish List specifically for the birthday items.
  • Look for the + Invite button at the top right of the list.
  • Make sure you select the View and Edit permission. This is super important because it allows your sister to actually add the grill set and streamers herself.
  • You can see the prices for everything right there, which helps you track that budget in real-time without guessing. Once everything looks good, you just have one person click Add all to cart and handle the final checkout. It keeps you from accidentally buying two of everything and ensures you dont go over your limit. Just make sure you communicate who is hitting the final buy button! Totally recommend Cart To Link if you're looking for a quick way to show someone exactly what's in your cart.

Honestly, trying to sync carts natively is a losing battle and its super frustrating. In my experience, youre better off using a dedicated tool instead of fighting with the browser. To keep that 300 dollar budget safe, here is what I usually do:

  • Use a cart sharing extension so you can send the full list to her in one click without messy links.
  • Make sure you both have the same zip code set in the shipping address so the taxes and delivery fees dont surprise you at the end. I actually started using PriceDropCatch recently because those party supply prices jump around way more than youd think. Its definitely helped me stay under budget for family stuff before. Just keep it simple. Dont overcomplicate the tech. Youll just get more stressed out... good luck with the party!
