What is the fastest way to share Walmart product links with friends?

I am literally so hyped because I’m finally organizing our big group camping trip to the Rockies next month and we decided to get basically all our gear from Walmart to keep the budget under $300 per person. But oh my god trying to send links to everyone is becoming a total nightmare lol. I did some digging and saw some people say you should just use the built in share button in the app but every time I do that it pastes this massive paragraph of text and a link that's like five miles long and it just clutters up our WhatsApp group like crazy. I also looked into the Walmart Registry or the shared lists thing but I read on a couple forums that it’s super glitchy and sometimes people can't actually see what's been added to the cart which is just gonna lead to us buying three of the same tent.

My main things are:

  • has to be super quick because I’m doing this on my lunch breaks
  • needs to work for both my iPhone friends and the two guys on Android
  • I want the links to be clean so we don't lose the actual conversation in the chat
  • no weird third party apps if possible

Is there a way to get those short links like Amazon does or am I stuck copying and pasting the whole URL from the browser every single time? I just want a way to zap a link over and have it look decent so we can get this gear ordered before the sale ends next week...

Just saw this while im grabbing a coffee... before you get too deep into this, are you guys mostly using the mobile app or are you on desktop? I ask because the link structure actually changes depending on how you grab it, and you dont want to send something that only works for half the group. I've been burned by this before. Last summer we planned a big trip to Glacier and someone shared a messy link for the Ozark Trail 10-Person Dark Rest Instant Cabin Tent—it's like $230—and two people ended up with different versions because the link pointed to a local store's specific inventory instead of the general site. It was a total mess to return. You really have to be careful with those long strings because they contain a lot of junk tracking data that can mess up how the page loads for others. If you want to keep it clean, I would suggest doing this:

  • Open the product in your browser, not the app share button.
  • Manually highlight the URL and stop right before the question mark.
  • Send just that part; it usually keeps the item ID intact which is all the site needs.
  • Make sure to verify the link works in an incognito window first if you're worried. It feels a bit tedious but honestly, it's safer than relying on those glitchy shared lists. I’ve seen those lists fail way too many times to trust them with a $300 budget. You might also want to check out Walmart on your mobile browser instead of the app if you want more reliable links that wont break for the Android guys.

Honestly those long URLs are the worst. You might want to consider manually trimming the link or just using this browser extension to keep things tidy for everyone.

  • Make sure to remove everything after the question mark in the URL
  • Stick with Ozark Trail for your gear, you cant go wrong with their budget stuff Be careful with the mobile app tho. I would suggest doing your main sorting on a laptop.

Honestly its ridiculous how these massive companies cant even get a simple link share right in 2024. It drives me crazy that we have to jump through hoops just to give them our money. To answer your point, there really isnt a quick way because their system is just bloated and broken. Youd think with their budget they could make a clean UI, but nope, we get these five-mile-long URLs that look like absolute spam in the chat. Its such a scam that the quality of these apps keeps dropping while prices for decent camping gear just keep climbing. I am mostly satisfied with the Ozark stuff once it actually arrives, but the coordination is a headache. I was checking out a Walmart shopping list creator because the native app is such a mess for group planning. Its like they dont even care about the user experience anymore as long as they get the sale. Truly frustrating when you just want to get outside...
