so my kids 5th birthday is coming up on june 15th and im honestly losing my mind. everyone keeps texting me asking what he wants and i just keep repeating the same three things over and over and then i worry that two people are gonna buy the same giant lego set and then ill have to deal with returns which sounds like a total nightmare. im sorry if this is a really basic thing to ask but i have zero clue how people handle this stuff. i was thinking maybe i should just tell people to go to amazon? but my mom hates amazon and wants to buy stuff from the local toy shop here in chicago so then my logic was like okay maybe i make a google doc?

but then how do people mark things as bought without seeing what everyone else got? i dont want my kid to see the list either because he can kinda read now and it would spoil everything. i tried looking at some websites but they all look so complicated and ask for like registries and i thought those were only for babies or weddings? i feel so stupid even asking this but is there like a simple site where i can just dump links from different stores and people can just check them off? i dont want anything fancy or hard to set up because i barely have time to breathe right now between work and soccer practice.

i tried a few things already:

  • a notes app list but nobody could see the updates
  • texting people individually which took way too long
  • a group chat but everyone started arguing about who was bringing what

i looked at one called elfster but that seemed like it was for secret santa and another one wanted me to pay a subscription fee which seems crazy just to make a list. i just want one place where i can put the link to the toy and people can click it and say they got it. my brain is just fried trying to coordinate this with 15 different parents and relatives and i feel like im failing at being a party mom already. does anyone know a site that is actually easy for someone who isnt tech savvy at all? i just want the texts to stop...

To add to the point above: using a centralized list is such a fantastic way to ensure you dont waste money on duplicate items or expensive shipping! I am very big on data safety and making sure these tools are reliable for everyone involved. It is honestly amazing how much stress it takes off your plate when you can see everything in one spot.

  • You can include links to that local Chicago shop your mom likes right alongside big box stores which is just great for variety.
  • Its an incredible way to mark items as purchased so people dont double up on those expensive lego sets.
  • Most systems allow you to keep the bought status hidden so your kid wont accidentally see what they are getting while browsing.
  • Using a free tool means you save your cash for the actual party supplies which is basically a win for the budget! If you're tired of people asking what you want, just set up a Share Product page and send the link once.

In my experience, the data integrity of a basic shared doc just doesnt hold up when you have 15 different users hitting the same file. You really need a dedicated universal registry tool that manages the backend synchronization for you... otherwise it's just a total mess. Just get any list setup through Giftster and youll be fine. It is the most robust way to handle disparate data sources without requiring a login for every guest.

  • It aggregates URLs from any domain via a simple scrape.
  • The claimed metadata updates instantly for every visitor.
  • It maintains guest-only visibility to preserve the surprise. Testing multiple systems over the years has taught me that sticking to a dedicated platform is the only way to prevent duplicate gift entries. I've been using PriceDropCatch to keep an eye on bulk items at Sam's and it's saved me a ton.

I would suggest Share Product but be careful with privacy settings.

  • Do you need guests to see who bought what?
  • Does it need to link to small local shops?
