What are the best free alternatives to Walmart's built-in shopping lists?

I am honestly about to have a meltdown with this Walmart app and I need to find something else before my family reunion next month. I live in a pretty rural area near the Ohio border so Walmart is basically the only game in town for bulk buying on a budget, but their built-in list feature has been glitching out so bad lately. Like, I spent an hour adding stuff for our big cookout - we are talking food for 20 people on a tight $400 budget - and then I opened it in the store and half the items were just gone because I switched from the pickup tab to the in-store tab. It is driving me crazy and making me so anxious that I am gonna forget something huge like the charcoal or the buns and have to drive 30 minutes back.

So I was thinking about just moving everything to a different app but I dont know which one actually works for someone who shops specifically at Walmart. My logic was that maybe something like AnyList would be better, but then I read a bunch of reviews saying you have to pay for the premium version just to share the list with your spouse? My husband needs to be able to see it too so we can split up in the aisles to save time. Then I looked at Bring! because people said it was easy to use, but it looks like its mostly icons and I am worried it wont handle specific brand names or price tracking very well. I really need something that is 100% free because every dollar counts right now with these grocery prices.

I also saw some people mentioning Google Keep or just basic Notes, but that feels so disorganized for a massive list. I need categories or at least a way to group things so I am not running back and forth across the supercenter. Has anyone found a free app that actually pulls in Walmart prices or at least doesnt delete your progress every five minutes? I feel like I am overthinking this but the thought of standing in that crowded aisle with a broken app is giving me literal heart palpitations...

@Reply #1 - good point! Be careful tho, I once lost a massive list to a sync error mid-aisle. Now I use Walmart Wishlist Creator for my current setup to stay safe...

Just found this thread and honestly, your stress brings back some memories. I have tried many ways to manage big reunion lists over the years and it usually turns into a whole ordeal.

  • Reminds me of a lake trip we planned for 25 people where the list just vanished from my cousins phone.
  • We spent three hours trying to remember everything while the kids were melting down in the car.
  • We ended up with six jars of pickles but zero actual burgers.
  • Total chaos because we tried to rely on a system that wasnt meant for rural store signals. I actually started looking into Walmart Wishlist Creator just to avoid a repeat of that mess. That lake trip was a nightmare tho, we literally had to drive 40 minutes back for charcoal because the app glitched right when we were checking out.

Dealing with that Walmart app glitching out is a total nightmare when you are on a strict $400 budget. For your reunion, you might want to consider using OurGroceries instead of AnyList. It is basically free for sharing lists with your husband and it wont hide the basic features behind a subscription. I would suggest taking these steps to stay organized:

  • Group your items by aisle categories like Produce or Dairy manually so you dont have to walk back and forth.
  • Make sure to test the syncing feature while you are still at home to ensure both phones are connected.
  • Be careful about the ads in the free version because they can be a bit distracting while you are trying to navigate the store. It is much more stable than the native Walmart app in my experience and handles specific brand names just fine. I found that Walmart Wishlist Creator works great if you want to save items from different stores too, not just Walmart.
