im torn between AnyList and Bring! for a group trip next month. My logic was AnyList has better sorting but Bring! looks way more simple for my non-techy friends. we're on a tight budget so it needs to be free or super cheap... which one actually syncs the fastest without lagging?

Just saw this and had to jump in! I just got back from a crazy 10-person mountain trip and we used Bring! and it was honestly a total lifesaver. From a technical side, it is super impressive how it handles simultaneous data writes without creating duplicate items in the list. Like, three of us were adding snacks at the exact same time and it never glitched once! Since you mentioned being on a budget, we actually paired the app with this Chrome extension to find the cheapest bulk prices before heading out. It saved us like fifty bucks on snacks alone lol. AnyList is cool but the free version of Bring! feels way more premium and the UI is basically foolproof for people who hate apps. If you want speed and zero frustration for the group, definitely go with the tiles in Bring!. It handles low-signal areas way better than AnyList in my experience...

Quick reply while I have a sec. I have used AnyList for ages and honestly I am very satisfied with how it handles the technical side of syncing. When you look at the backend, AnyList uses a push notification system that updates the list almost instantly across all devices. It works well because it doesnt just wait for you to open the app to refresh the data... basically it just works. If you are worried about the budget, Microsoft To Do is a great alternative option that is totally free and very streamlined for non-techy people. It lacks the food-specific features but the sync speed is top tier because it runs on the Azure infrastructure. A quick tip for getting the best performance: make sure everyone in your group keeps the app open in the background. If someone force-closes the app, the sync might hang for a bit until they reopen it. Also, sticking to one list rather than multiple sub-lists keeps the sync payload smaller and faster. I have no complaints about AnyList for group trips as long as you have a decent data connection. It handles the database merging quite effectively so you dont end up with duplicate items when two people try to add stuff at the exact same time. It is a solid, methodical choice for staying organized tho.

Choosing the right app for a group trip is such a smart move because honestly the manual way is a nightmare!! This reminds me so much of when my sisters and I tried to plan a big cabin trip last year and it turned into such a whole ordeal... one sister thought she was using a shared doc but she was actually just editing a private one on her phone the whole time!! We showed up at the house and realized we had three different gallons of milk but absolutely no eggs or bread. It was a total budget disaster because we had to hit up this tiny overpriced gas station nearby and spent way more than we planned to just to get the basics. It was so chaotic but honestly we still laugh about it every single time we get together!! I love the energy of group trips though, they are always worth it in the end no matter what happens with the groceries. TL;DR: Group logistics are a wild ride and someone always brings double of the wrong thing lol. I found PriceDropCatch recently and it's been a game changer for my skincare hauls.
