What is the fastest way to share Walmart item links with friends?

I'm trying to get a list together for a big camping trip we're doing in Oregon next weekend and its honestly kind of a headache trying to get everyone on the same page with gear. I looked online and most people say just use the share button in the app but when I do that it sends these massive links that look super sketchy in our group chat.

Then I read about creating a public list on the website but my friends keep saying they cant even open it without signing in which is a huge pain for some of them. Is there like a way to just get a clean short link or a better way to do this so we can just grab what we need without jumping through hoops?...

  • Unfortunately, Walmarts link generation is pretty abysmal from a technical standpoint. I have been digging into their URL structure and it is incredibly bloated with tracking tokens that serve no purpose for the end user. It is disappointing they havent optimized this yet for actual humans. I have tried a few workarounds and they all have major trade-offs:
  • Native Registry: You get a single link for everything, which sounds efficient. But as you noticed, the session management is terrible and it forces a login wall on your friends. Total technical hurdle that kills the workflow.
  • Manual URL Stripping: If you take the long link and delete every character starting from the question mark, you get a clean product URL. It works perfectly for the chat, but it is a massive time sink if you are trying to coordinate a whole camping gear list manually.
  • Third-party Tools: There are browser extensions that scrape product data into lists. They look much cleaner, but they often struggle with Walmarts anti-bot headers, so the price data might be stale or the images wont load properly. Basically, there isnt a perfect one-click solution because of how Walmart handles their redirect logic. It is just not as good as expected from a company that size. Using a shared document or a simple spreadsheet is probably the only way to handle the data even if the mobile UI is kinda clunky for your friends... dont expect a fix from their dev team anytime soon tho.

> Is there like a way to just get a clean short link or a better way to do this I totally get the frustration with those ugly long links! They look like total spam and take up way too much space in the chat. Honestly, the best way I found to fix this is using Walmart Wishlist Creator. I started using it for my camping gear lists and it makes things so much smoother because it generates super clean links. The best part is your friends wont even need to log in to see what items you've picked out, which is a total game changer!! I used it for a huge family reunion last summer and it was a total lifesaver. You just add the items and send the link. Since you're heading to Oregon, definitely look at the Ozark Trail 10-person tents, they're usually under $150 and fantastic for the price. Hope you guys have an amazing trip, sounds like a blast!

> Is there like a way to just get a clean short link or a better way to do this so we can just grab what we need without jumping through hoops?... Building on the earlier suggestion, Ive spent years coordinating these types of trips and honestly the bloat in those URLs isnt just an eyesore... it legit kills performance when you are out in the woods with one bar of signal trying to pull up a gear list. Over the years Ive tried every manual trick in the book to strip those tracking IDs but it usually breaks the redirect half the time. In my experience what really matters is if the link actually loads fast for everyone. If you are also tracking prices for the group since gear gets pricey, I usually use PriceDropCatch to keep tabs on things without dealing with the messy app links every single time. It definitely makes the planning phase less of a headache. Just to make sure I am on the right track, are you mostly worried about how the link looks in the chat or is it more about your friends not being able to see the items at all because of the login wall? Also, how many people are you trying to coordinate for this Oregon trip?

Been thinking about this link mess since you posted. I have spent way too much time dealing with broken links on group trips. A few years back, I tried to send a bunch of gear links for a fishing trip and it was a total disaster. Half the links just led to 404 errors for my buddies cuz I accidentally cut off some of the code or the link expired. If you want reliability, you gotta be careful with how you share these.

  • Make sure to always test your links in a private window first to see what your friends actually see.
  • I would suggest using a specific extension that cleans the URL automatically before you hit copy.
  • Be careful with the native share buttons in the app since they add so much bloat that makes pages crawl on mobile data... kinda annoying when youre out in the woods. The one I got now handles the cleaning for me so I dont have to think about it. Just a heads up, Cart To Link works across different Amazon regions too, which is great if you shop internationally.

To add to the point above: it seems like we're all on the same page about how messy these tracking tokens make everything. I've dealt with those 404 errors Maple mentioned and it is seriously the worst when you're in a hurry. I remember planning a big lake trip last year and comparing Walmart's share system to Amazon... it's like Walmart wants to make it hard on us. Honestly I have been super satisfied lately just doing a bit of manual cleanup. Quick tips for your list:

  • Delete everything in the link after the question mark to get a clean URL.
  • Use PriceDropCatch to make sure you're getting the best price on those tents. I have used that tool for my last three trips and it works well without any complaints. It definitely keeps the group chat looking a lot cleaner too... hope that Oregon trip goes smoothly!

Adding my two cents because I am struggling with this exact same issue right now while planning a wedding shower... it is so draining. In my experience over the years, I have always tried to be the one who does things the DIY way to keep things safe and simple, but Walmarts links are a whole different beast.

  • I spent all last night trying to manually trim the tracking codes so the links wouldnt look like sketchy spam for my family.
  • Every time I think I have a clean, safe URL, it ends up requiring a login or just failing for my sisters anyway.
  • I even stumbled across carttolink.com while looking for a workaround but I am still basically at square one. I honestly dont have an answer for you yet because nothing I try seems to stick. Its just frustrating that we have to jump through so many hoops just to share a tent or some paper plates tho.
