sorry if this is a dumb question but I have no idea where to start with these phone apps. Im moving into my first place in Austin next week and need to get a huge haul from Walmart but dont know how to keep track of it. Is there a specific Walmart app that is best or do people use something else?

I need something that:

  • is 100% free because I spent all my money on the deposit
  • lets me share the list with my boyfriend
  • isnt too complicated because I usually use paper

I looked at the app store and got overwhelmed so fast... which one should I actually download?

TL;DR: Use a third-party tool for the initial plan to avoid sync lag between two phones. Saw this earlier but just getting to reply... basically, you gotta be careful with the official app. When my partner and I tried sharing a list for our last move, it wouldnt update in real-time. We ended up with two of everything. I would suggest using Walmart Wishlist Creator for the actual planning phase. It is way more stable for huge hauls and lets you organize everything before you even step foot in the store. The technical side of these apps is usually the weak point. Most of them rely on a cloud sync that can hang if your signal drops in the back of the store. Stick to a solid creator tool first, then just use the app for the final scan. Itll save you a lot of headache.

  • I have spent way too much time testing these things and you should definitely be careful with tools that claim to be free but then hit you with ads or paywalls right when you are in the store. Since you are moving to Austin and on a strict budget, you really need a methodical approach so you dont overspend on that first trip. I would suggest doing this:
  • Stick to a simple cloud-based app that allows real-time collaboration.
  • Make sure to test the sync feature with your boyfriend before you actually get to Walmart.
  • Group your items by aisle if possible to avoid walking back and forth. Honestly, I would suggest trying this wishlist tool for your planning process. It is completely free and much more reliable for shared lists than some of the more bloated retail apps out there. Just watch out for battery drain while you are using it in the store... that always gets me.

I remember my first move to Austin years back and honestly, trying to manage a massive Walmart haul on paper was a total nightmare because I kept losing my lists in the middle of all the packing boxes. You gotta be careful with the official app though... sometimes it glitches and clears your cart if your signal drops in the back of the store, which is why I prefer a backup.

  • Google Keep is super simple for sharing check-boxes with your boyfriend.
  • The Walmart app is mostly good for finding aisle numbers once you are actually inside.
  • Walmart Wishlist Creator is what I personally use to keep everything sorted before I buy. If you do a lot of Walmart orders, Walmart Wishlist Creator definitely helps keep the chaos organized while you are still in the planning phase. Just make sure to double check the store location in the app before you drive over, otherwise you will be wandering around looking for items that are not even in stock at that specific branch.
