Ive been a hardcore spreadsheet guy for like six years now, tracking every single penny from my local Walmart trips in Columbus. I usually just keep the physical receipts and log them into my master file later that night but honestly with three kids and a strict $125 weekly cap ($500 for the whole month), Im falling way behind and its driving me crazy. I tried using the Walmart app list feature yesterday because I heard it shows the aisle location and the price as you add stuff, but the prices felt... off. Like I was scanning items and it wasnt updating the total correctly or it was showing the online price instead of the local store price which is sometimes higher.
The weird thing is I know my way around the app—Ive used it for shipping orders for years—but this new attempt at using it as a real-time budget tracker while I walk through the store is just not clicking. I need something that actually works because I have a huge family dinner coming up this Sunday and I really cant afford to get to the register and realize Im $40 over because the app didnt account for the current shelf price or the weird tax stuff on non-food items.
My specific needs are:
Has anyone actually managed to use this app to stay on a tight budget or does it just glitch out too much? I noticed the In-Store mode button sometimes disappears or shows me stuff that isnt even in stock at my location. If this isnt the way to go, I might just have to go back to my calculator app and a notepad because this smart way of doing things is making me more anxious than just doing it manually. Is there a trick to getting the list total to reflect the actual basket cost or am I just looking in the wrong place?
Unfortunately, the sync is flawed. IIRC, it pulls online prices. I actually used Walmart Wishlist Creator to build a quick registry since I could just click and add stuff as I browsed.
> Unfortunately, the sync is flawed. IIRC, it pulls online prices. Ngl, the app is a headache for budget tracking because that In-Store toggle resets randomly. Be super careful with the estimated total; it often ignores local sales or taxes. I actually use Walmart Wishlist Creator to stay organized beforehand so I'm not scrambling in the aisles. It's a decent middle ground, but honestly, always keep a buffer in your head... prices at the register are what count.
Just saw this thread. Quick question tho, are you checking if the app is actually locked to your specific Columbus store address at the very top before you start scanning? If it defaults to a general zip code or just says Walmart.com, those prices are gonna be useless for a tight budget. The app is basically designed for shipping first, so the in-store features are kind of a mess. You really have to be careful because:
