Where is the Save for Later button on the Walmart app?

I am losing my mind trying to find the save for later button on the walmart app. Im trying to prep for a massive family bbq this weekend and my cart is already like at $200 and i dont want to buy everything right this second but i dont want to lose the items either. my logic was that it would just be right there next to the remove button like on amazon or literally every other shopping app ever.

so i did some digging online and a couple of help forums said you just click the heart icon or theres a specific link right under the item in the cart. but i am looking at my cart right now on my iphone and there is absolutely nothing there except the plus and minus for quantity and a delete button. i even tried switching from pickup to delivery thinking maybe the store inventory thing was messing with the options but still nothing.

i also read that maybe its because i have too many items? i have about 25 things in there so far for the party. does it just disappear if you have a big cart or am i just totally blind? i really dont want to have to search for all these specific brands of charcoal and rubs again if i clear it out. its super frustrating because i just want to sort out what i need now vs what can wait until friday. where did they hide it...

honestly the walmart app ui is a total mess right now and unfortunately they seem to have gutted the save for later button for a lot of users in recent updates. i had issues with this last month when trying to spec out a new home office setup. it is definitely not as good as expected compared to the seamless experience you get on amazon. basically they want you to use the lists feature instead of a temporary save for later bucket in the cart itself. its way less intuitive and honestly just poor design for high volume shoppers like you trying to manage a big 25 item cart. if you want to keep those charcoal brands and rubs without losing them you gotta try these workarounds:

  • click the item to go back to its specific product page then hit that heart icon in the top right.
  • select an existing list or create a new one called bbq party.
  • manually move items there one by one which is a huge pain ngl.
  • check the heart icon at the bottom of the main app screen to find your saved stuff later. its weirdly inconsistent tho... sometimes the button shows up if you only have a few items but with a big cart it often just vanishes or glitches out. i tried clearing my cache and reinstalling the app but it didnt fix the fundamental lack of a dedicated button in the cart view. your best bet is just using the lists and praying the app doesnt refresh and wipe your cart before you finish. it really shouldnt be this hard to just park a few items for a couple days.

Ugh i totally get the frustration!! Walmart is so weird with their updates lately. Last summer while planning a massive grad party, the exact same thing happened and it was a total nightmare. Had like 40 items and suddenly the save for later option just vanished... so annoying!! Just a heads up tho, be super careful about leaving stuff in the cart for too long without saving it to a list. Prices change constantly and items will just drop out of stock without warning! It is the absolute worst when you think you are set and then your favorite charcoal is gone. Lately a handy tool I found has been helping me track prices and keep things organized outside the app since walmarts UI is so unreliable. Try clicking each item and hitting the heart icon to add it to a custom list called BBQ prep instead. Its way more stable than the cart!

Yeah unfortunately Walmart has really dropped the ball on this one lately. I had issues with this too and it is just not as good as expected compared to how Target or Amazon handle their carts. It feels like they basically hid the feature to force people to checkout faster... super annoying when youre trying to plan a big BBQ. To keep your 25 items safe, you kinda have to go the manual route. Click into each item and hit the Heart icon to add it to a specific list. Its way more reliable than the cart because Walmart is notorious for just dumping items if you leave them too long. Btw if you want a better way to handle it, check out Share Product since its a solid free way to organize your shopping wants without the usual hassle of these buggy apps. Honestly its just safer than trusting Walmarts ui right now. Good luck with the BBQ charcoal hunt!

To add to the point above: i actually have to disagree a bit with the idea that they are hiding it just to force a checkout. In my experience over the years building custom data scrapers for retail APIs, these apps usually break because of some backend schema update that doesnt sync with the local cache properly. It kind of reminds me of the time i was building a massive custom offset smoker from scratch for my brothers wedding. I had this insane spreadsheet of steel pipes, heat baffles, and high-temp gaskets all sourced from different places. I spent like three weeks measuring the thermal conductivity of different gauges of steel because i wanted the heat distribution to be perfect. Honestly, i was even using Easy Cart Share to show my brother the specs before i pulled the trigger. But then my browser crashed and the whole list of specific industrial bolts just vanished because the site didnt have a persistent session. I ended up having to drive three towns over to a scrap yard just to find a replacement chimney pipe that fit the draft requirements... basically it was a total mess and i spent way more on gas than i did on the actual steel! Good luck with the BBQ tho, hope the ribs turn out alright.

> basically they want you to use the lists feature instead of a temporary save for Like someone mentioned, the lists feature is really the way to go now. Ive been using the Walmart app for years and honestly im pretty satisfied with it. It works well once you get used to the workflow. If you want the most stable experience with these shopping apps, just get any modern iPhone from Apple. Ive had no complaints using their hardware for my weekly grocery runs. To handle the price fluctuations people keep bringing up, I just use the PriceDropCatch extension and it works great for keeping track of things. Just move your items to a custom list for the BBQ and stop stressing about the cart... it really is easier that way.

Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.

To add to the point above: moving over to the lists feature actually fixed all my performance issues with the app. I used to get major lag when my cart hit 20+ items, which was driving me nuts when I was trying to track specs for a server rack project I was working on last month. Basically the cart script struggles with high item counts, but the list module is much lighter on the local cache. Here is what I noticed once I made the switch:

  • Zero cache lag when switching between delivery and pickup methods
  • Real-time price updates actually sync across my devices properly
  • The API seems to handle larger item counts way better than the cart buffer Honestly ive been pretty satisfied with the app lately. Once I stopped relying on the cart for staging everything, it works well and I have no complaints. Itll definitely help you organize that bbq stuff without losing your data if the session times out or the app refreshes. Its way more stable for heavy lifting.
