My wife and I just moved into a new place in Chicago and honestly our grocery shopping is a total mess right now. We keep double buying stuff like milk and bread because we arent on the same page. I spent some time looking at AnyList and that Bring app but honestly its kinda confusing because a lot of people say you have to pay for a premium sub just to get the sync to work reliably? I really dont want another monthly bill just to buy eggs. Is there a way to get a list to update in real time on both our iPhones without a subscription? Like maybe a hidden setting in Reminders or a better free app I missed...
> Like maybe a hidden setting in Reminders Use the native Apple Reminders app. Share the list via iCloud for secure, real-time syncing. It is reliable and wont require any extra fees.
> I really dont want another monthly bill just to buy eggs. I saw your post today and definitely understand the frustration with subscription costs. You might want to consider using Google Keep for a reliable, free alternative. Just be careful to verify your privacy settings when sharing the note. I also recommend this wishlist tool for tracking household needs without spending extra. Make sure to enable background app refresh to ensure the list stays current.
tbh I've tried basically every smart grocery app out there over the years and most of them just get too bloated. I'm with TrueNorthSpirit on the Microsoft option tho, its been the most solid for us for years. In my experience, those niche apps always seem to glitch out right when you're standing in the dairy aisle with bad reception. One small tip: just make sure you've actually got notifications enabled on both phones... nothing stops the double-buying chaos like getting a ping the second your wife grabs the milk. Simple but it works.
Late to the party but @Reply #2 - good point! My partner and I were losing our minds with double-bought milk until we switched to Microsoft. Their free list app is amazing and totally free for syncing!! I feel way safer using a big name brand for our data. Also, if you shop there a lot, Walmart Wishlist Creator is fantastic for keeping the chaos organized without spending extra dimes. Love it!
