im really new to using etsy and i found this super cute custom pet portrait for my moms birthday in two weeks. the thing is its a bit over my budget of 30 bucks right now and i keep hoping the price drops or there is a sale.

i have no idea how people find out about those discounts though like do you have to just check the site all day? i feel really silly asking this but is there some setting where i can get an email or a notification if the price goes down or something? i looked around the app and got totally confused lol. how do i get alerts for specific shop discounts?

> i have no idea how people find out about those discounts though Found this thread and had to jump in because I love a good deal! The best trick is just to heart the item and wait. Lots of sellers have coupons that trigger automatically if you favorite something. Just make sure your email settings allow for shop notifications. I just use PriceDropCatch to monitor my favorites list, it's way easier than checking manually every day.

I dealt with this exact thing last month. Being totally obsessed with a vintage mechanical keyboard, I really needed a real-time price drop notification. Etsy's native system is basically just favoriting an item and waiting, but honestly using an Etsy price monitor is a total game changer!! It tracks the price via the page metadata directly. You just paste the URL and it pings your email when the price shifts. Its amazing!

Honestly, the Etsy app is pretty disappointing for tracking sales. I've had issues with their notifications being super slow or not showing up at all. It's frustrating when you're on a tight budget.

  • Be careful with random coupon code sites you find on Google, they're often fake or just phishing for info.
  • You can try favoriting the item, but i usually use this free extension instead. It's way more reliable than waiting on Etsy's glitchy emails.

I've had issues with the official app for years, and it's just not as good as expected for someone who actually needs to stay on budget. Unfortunately, Etsy prioritizes their marketing emails over actual price drop alerts, so you end up getting a - check out these similar items - email instead of the actual sale notification you wanted. Its really frustrating. I'm usually pretty skeptical of adding random stuff to my browser, but I've found that using PriceDropCatch is actually safer than those weird coupon finders that track everything you do. It basically just looks at the public metadata of the page to see if the price changed. I used it when I was hunting for a specific wool blanket that was way out of my range. Etsy's native - favorite - system never told me when it hit 20 percent off, but the tracker caught it immediately because it checks the source code directly. It's way more reliable than just crossing your fingers and hoping the Etsy algorithm decides to be helpful... which it usually isnt tho.
