Omg so my boyfriend and I just moved into our first place together in the Cincinnati area and we are finally getting settled! Its so exciting but honestly the grocery situation is a total mess right now. We decided to stick to Walmart because there is one literally five minutes away and our budget is pretty tight—trying to stay under $150 a week for the both of us which is hard with prices these days. The problem is we keep coming home with two cartons of eggs or forgetting the one thing we actually needed for dinner because we arent on the same page. I spent like two hours last night looking for a way to have a shared list.
I read some reddit threads saying you can just use the Walmart app lists but when I tried to set it up I couldnt find a share button anywhere for the life of me? Like do we have to share a login?? That seems super insecure and annoying if we both have our own payment methods saved and I really dont want him seeing what I buy for his birthday or whatever lol. I also saw people talking about using AnyList or some other third party apps that sync but I'm worried that if I make the list there I'll have to manually search for every single item again once I'm ready to actually place the pickup order and that sounds like a total time sink.
It feels like there should be a way to just have a live cart or something where we can both just toss things in throughout the week as we realize we are out of milk or bread. Plus I'm worried about the inventory actually being right if we use a third party app versus the official one. Does anyone have a hack for this or like a specific way they set up their shared account so it doesnt get all glitchy? We really need a system that works in real-time so I dont end up buying another bag of flour we dont have room for... what are you guys actually using for this?
Unfortunately, the native app just let us down every single time. Sharing a login is a bad move imo, we tried it and it was a technical mess with cards getting mixed up and items vanishing... super frustrating. You really should just look into any browser tool for shopping. Easy Cart Share is way better than just sending a bunch of product links one by one, trust me.
Regarding what #2 said about the native app just let us down... I actually think third-party apps are the way to go for the best technical results!
OMG congrats on the new place in Cincy!! Moving is such a massive whirlwind but so fun once you actually get the groceries sorted out. My partner and I went through the exact same thing with the double egg cartons lol... it is so frustrating when you realize you just wasted money on stuff you already had plenty of. Basically, the Walmart app is kinda garbage for sharing lists unless you want to share a login, which is super annoying for the exact reasons you mentioned. I hated the idea of him seeing my gift purchases too! Honestly, the best way I found to fix this was using Easy Cart Share. It basically lets us both add stuff to a single cart in real-time without the headache of switching accounts or sharing passwords! It is seriously amazing how much smoother things go now.
