How can I send my Walmart grocery cart to another user?

So my aunt is getting older and lives down in Florida while I'm up here in New York, and honestly her tech skills are pretty much nonexistent. I've been trying to help her with her groceries because she shouldn't be out in the heat right now. I spent like forty-five minutes today picking out all her specific brands of yogurt and those tiny low-sodium soups she likes, but now I'm stuck at the checkout. My logic was that I could just build the cart and then 'send' it to her so she can just put in her own card info and pick a delivery time that works for her schedule. I did some digging online and saw people mentioning the 'Share this list' feature, but that just seems to send a text list of items, it doesn't actually populate a cart for someone else to pay for. Then I saw some old Reddit thread about using a Chrome extension to export carts, but that feels way too complicated for an 80-year-old to figure out on her end. I really don't want to just log into her account directly because she's got all her saved passwords messed up and I'm afraid I'll lock her out of everything. Is there seriously no official way to just flick a whole cart over to another user? It seems like such a basic thing for families to have.

Ngl, I went down this exact rabbit hole last year with my own grandma. It's frustrating because the tech is right there but Walmart keeps it locked down for security reasons. Basically, their system doesn't allow cross-account cart transfers because the cart ID is hard-linked to your specific User ID and active session cookies. When you use that share feature, youre just sending a static list of product SKUs, not the actual live session. I've messed around with a few workarounds and here is what actually functions:

  • The Registry Hack: You can create a Gift Registry (like for a wedding or housewarming), add all her specific items there, and send her the link. She can buy everything off the registry using her own card. It's a bit of a setup but bypasses the cart sharing issue.
  • Managed Login: Honestly, the most stable way is just having her credentials. Use a browser profile specifically for her so you dont mix up your own cookies. You build the cart, tell her it's ready, and she just opens her app to pay.
  • Shared Lists: If she can manage one extra click, you share the list and she has to hit the Add all to cart button. Tbh this fails sometimes if items go out of stock while the list is in transit. It really sucks there isnt a simple hand off button for families. It feels like a massive oversight for accessibility... but the registry thing is probably your best bet if you want to keep your accounts totally separate.

Unfortunately, the first guy is right. Its a huge letdown that Walmart still doesnt have a proper family handoff feature. Ive tried everything and it always ends in a headache.

  • Honestly, just go with Instacart instead.
  • Their group cart features are way more polished for this kind of thing.
  • Or check out anything from Uber for groceries... they handle the shared checkout process much smoother.
