How can I organize a birthday wishlist to share with friends?

So my 30th is coming up in like three weeks and Im honestly so annoyed right now. Ive been using basic Amazon lists for years, like I know how to manage a registry or whatever, but my friends arent all Prime users and I want stuff from local shops here in Chicago or even some specific Etsy items. I tried using this one app—I wont name it—but the mobile UI was just garbage and it kept trying to redirect everything through its own tracking links which totally broke the checkout flow for my sister when she tried to test it. Its such a headache. I just need a way to compile everything—prices, links, maybe even some notes on shipping because my apartment mailroom is a nightmare—without it looking like a messy spreadsheet or a blatant cash grab. I even thought about just making a Notion page but then theres the whole issue of people claiming items so I dont get three of the same coffee grinder. Im usually the tech-savvy one in the group but this is making me feel like a total boomer honestly. Is there a tool that actually works for this without being a bloated mess or requiring everyone to make a new account just to see the list?

Ngl I went through this exact same headache last year. You might want to consider Giftful because it actually handles external links without being a nightmare. Just be careful to double check that you enable the claim feature for guests though. I suggest sending a test link to your sister first just to make sure the claim button shows up right for non-users.

Like someone mentioned, these platforms can be super glitchy. Quick question tho, are you looking for a free tool or are you okay with small fees? My cousin tried a local list for her wedding and it was such a disaster:

  • The site crashed constantly.
  • Her mailroom ended up with ten duplicate toasters.
  • Everyone got frustrated and just sent Venmo. You might want to consider checking Share-Product for some ideas, but honestly, her experience really put me off these things... be careful.

You might want to consider Wishlist.com instead. It handles non-standard URLs more reliably via their extension. Just make sure to verify the guest claim settings so friends dont have to create accounts, which is a major friction point. If you're tired of people asking what you want, just set up a Share Product page and send the link once.
