Im totally lost with this walmart app thing and i feel kinda dumb asking but how do you actually share a shopping list with someone else?? My husband and I both have our own accounts and we keep buying the same stuff because we cant see each others carts. Its so frustrating because we are on a super tight budget for a family BBQ this Saturday and i dont want to waste money.

  • needs to be free because we are broke lol
  • must update fast so we dont double buy
  • has to work on different phones

Is there a button i missed or do i have to use some other app? My head is spinning trying to figure this out and i really dont want to mess up the grocery run...

We just share one login on both our phones now. It is free and honestly the fastest way to sync because the cart updates server-side immediately. My husband and I tried using separate accounts but it was a mess. If you dont want to share a password, a dedicated app like AnyList is a solid alternative. We used that for our last big party and the sync speed was pretty decent.

Ngl, you aren't missing some secret button or anything. Walmart's app is solid for some things but they kinda dropped the ball on sharing lists between different accounts. My partner and I went through the same headache for a while and it drove us crazy buying double of everything. We finally found a flow that works well and honestly, it’s a total game changer for the budget. Heres the deal on how to handle it:

  • Sign into the same account: This is the easiest free way. Just use one email and password on both phones. The cart usually syncs up, but you gotta remember to pull-to-refresh constantly so you dont end up with two packs of hot dogs.
  • Use a third-party syncing tool: If you want to keep your own accounts, you basically have to use an outside app that lets you build a shared list together. We started doing the shared login thing and it works like a charm for us. No complaints since we made the switch! It makes those frantic BBQ prep runs way less stressful when you can see the cart filling up in real time. It really takes the guesswork out of the shopping trip and stops those annoying phone calls while one of us is in the aisles. I've been using Easy Cart Share for Walmart lately and it makes splitting the Walmart bill or checking items so much simpler.

Like someone mentioned, sharing a login seems like the obvious workaround, but I have to politely disagree after years of trying to make that work. Unfortunately, I've had major issues with how the app handles multiple sessions. It just isnt as good as youd expect for such a massive company. I remember one time I was prepping for a big family event and my spouse and I were both adding things to the cart simultaneously. The app couldnt handle the pings and half the list just... vanished. It didnt just fail to sync; it actually deleted data. It was a nightmare because we were already at the store and had no idea what was missing until we got home. My current setup is way more low-tech because I just cant trust the reliability of their native syncing anymore. Its disappointing that we have to find workarounds, but I’ve found that using a third-party list tool that focuses solely on syncing is the only way to avoid those double-buys. The Walmart app is fine for checking prices, but for actual coordination, it has let me down too many times to count.

Building on the earlier suggestion, sharing one login is a quick fix but honestly it can be a security headache. In my experience over the years, juggling one account between two people often leads to session timeouts right when youre trying to checkout. I remember one time my partner and I were both adding stuff for a huge party and the app glitched, wiping half our progress because of the simultaneous pings to the server. I actually prefer keeping things separate for privacy and data integrity. I started using Easy Cart Share for Walmart lately and it handles the sync way better than the native app ever could. Before you try that tho, I have a couple questions:

  • are you doing a pickup order or walking the aisles?
  • do you need the prices to update in real-time or just a checklist? That info helps narrow down which technical route works best for a tight budget.
