My sons 5th birthday is coming up in about three weeks and family keeps asking what to get him but I am so bad at this stuff. We live in a small town so basically everyone shops at the Walmart down the street and I figured a registry there would be easiest for my parents and his friends. I tried looking on their website earlier today but I got super confused with all the buttons and I dont know if a gift list is the same thing as a registry or if I need a special account for it? Sorry if this is really basic but I just dont want people buying the same lego sets twice. How do I actually start a birthday registry on the Walmart site?
Ive set up dozens of these over the years and the interface changes constantly, which is super annoying. Just go to the Registry section and pick Birthday. One thing though... be careful with privacy settings. I always toggle searchable to off so strangers cant see my kids info.
Building on the earlier suggestion, I have to say that once you get it set up, its absolutely fantastic for keeping track of those Lego sets! I do this every year for my kids and honestly, it saves my sanity. Before I dive in with the full walkthrough tho, are you using the Walmart app on your phone or are you on a laptop? The interface is way different for both and I want to give you the right directions! A couple quick tips:
> I just dont want people buying the same lego sets twice. Like someone mentioned, keeping track of things so you dont get duplicates is the whole point. I remember when I did this for my daughters party last year. I was so worried about getting five of the same doll, but the way Walmart handles the purchased status is actually really reliable. It worked well for us because even my tech-illiterate uncle managed to use the link without breaking anything lol. One thing that made me feel really satisfied with the whole process was using PriceDropCatch while I was building the list. It helps you keep an eye on those Lego sets because the prices there jump around a lot. I actually managed to tell my sister to wait two days and she saved like fifteen bucks on a Ninjago set. Just stick to the Registry option specifically like the others said. I tried a simple list once and it was a disaster because it didnt cross things off as they were bought. The Registry side of the site is way more robust for avoiding those double-Lego situations.
I literally just did this for my nieces big day and it was such a blast! Honestly, the best part about using Walmart is that it saves everyone so much cash since their prices are basically unbeatable. I used to get so stressed about the technical side but once you realize a registry is the public version and a list is just private, it clicks. Here is my pro strategy for making it work:
